ALL WELCOME! First Baptist Church would love to have their Banwell family join them for their Christmas Carol Sing-a-long at First Baptist Church Wind-sor. They could use some bakers to help provide some NUT FREE goodies for those that attend that evening. Please contact Grant Fairley if you can help out. Call Grant at 519-969-3388 or email: [email protected].

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE? As we look around our city we see so many signs of Christmas. Twinkling lights decorated houses and shops. Christmas trees adorn homes and businesses. People are scurrying to buy that perfect gift for a loved one. Christmas get-togethers are being planned and Christmas cards start arriving in our mailboxes or in-boxes. It is so easy to get caught up in the secular side of Christmas. I have heard many people ask “where is Christ in all this”? It seems that many have forgotten that Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas. This Savior of ours who was born in a stable who came to change the world and save us through His grace. How we celebrate Christmas can have a great impact on our families, friends, neigh-bourhoods and communities. We are Christ’s representatives and when people see “Christ” in our Christmas we are sending a strong message that He lives in us. Jesus, the greatest gift of Christmas. By: Donna Soper

Age Unlimited December 2018

“The angel said to them. Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for

all the people. A Saviour has been born—Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:9-11

“Jesus is the reason for the Christmas Season”

Come celebrate our Christmas fellowship and festive dinner on Wednesday, December 12th at

11:00 a.m. at “The Other Place”, 1395 Walker Road (near Ottawa and Seminal Streets).

Our program is entitled “Come Celebrate Christmas” with scripture and song. There are many won-

derful Christmas carols and hymns. We will enjoy our opening hymn: O Come All Ye Faithful” to

begin our program. Pastor Tim Nuttall will narrate “The Promise” and read about “The Event” as the

miracle is outlined in Luke Chapter 2. Hymns will be spaced between the readings. Musical ac-

companiment will be by Donna Wilcox, Tom Holmes and Vern Peifer. Following the program, “The

Other Place” will serve our festive meal. We have ordered a fruit punch for sipping during the morn-

ing. Lunch will be served at noon and include: assorted rolls, soup, turkey with dressing, mashed

potatoes, vegetable and tea and coffee beverage. No dessert is included. A request is being made

to you. When you purchase Christmas baking supplies, think of doing a batch of your favourite to

bring to our Age Unlimited Christmas party (cookies, squares, bars, small tarts, etc.) Pam will bake

us a carrot cake.

A sign up sheet will be on the coffee counter after our November meeting until Sunday, Dec. 9th.

When you sign up, please pay Madelon Kidd $25.00 to cover dinner cost. Age Unlimited will pay

any additional taxes and the tip.

“May your Christmas time be happy with a glory warm and strange, and the day be filled with bless-

ings that will never, never change. May the blessedness of Christmas and the joy of all the things

dear form a large and lovely archway for the happy coming year.” Betty Stoffed

“Glory to God in the highest; peace, goodwill toward men”. Luke 2:14

May everyone in the Banwell Congregation and our Age Unlimited Group experience God’s richest

blessings at this most wonderful time of the year.

Psalm 111:10

2019! It’s a new beginning. Age Unlimited, the senior ministry of Banwell Community Church will

continue with the theme. “Our Incredible Journey” with a focus on enjoying a healthy lifestyle.

Will you celebrate New Year’s Eve; watch the Tournament of Roses Parade from Pasadena, Cali-

fornia; have a marvelous dinner and enjoy the college football game from the Rose Bowl in Pasade-

na? What a fabulous, exciting day! Age Unlimited will also enjoy an exciting, informative beginning

on Wednesday, January 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel Room when our special guest speaker will

be Kevin Armstrong (See article in News ‘n Views below),

Henry Nurse—our group coordinator has retired after over 12 years of dedicated service. There is

an opening for new leadership. If you feel God is calling you to the position, please speak to Pastor

Tim Nuttall or Joan Fulmer.

Our meeting will consist of prayer by Pastor Tim, singing our favourite hymns, our special guest

speaker and the morning will conclude with a nutritious delicious luncheon. This is prepared by our

Hospitality Team of hostess with Penny Bain and Pam Beemer as co-chairmen. Madelon Kidd,

Dorothy Allan, Carol Middaugh, Deborah Bevington, and Ellen Doyle. We want to welcome

Deborah and Ellen Doyle to the team. Deborah is a marvelous cook. We request a freewill dona-

tion to cover food costs.

Our special January speaker who will be Kevin Armstrong who was born in Windsor and attended

Temple Baptist Church prior to Banwell. His parents are Doris and the late Lloyd Armstrong. He

has one sibling, a sister and two adult daughters. Kevin and the family were active, dedicated,

faithful members of the former Temple Baptist church. He received his basic education here and

then attended Carleton University in Ottawa. Following graduation he joined the O.P.P. and his first

posting was in Kenora, Ontario. Winter was brutal with temperatures minus 40 degrees and wind

chill below minus 50. He retired after serving 27 years as an O.P.P. officer including collision recon-

struction and investigating over 450 fatal accidents in Essex County and Chatham–Kent.

Kevin brings his varied and extensive knowledge in policing to our January meeting with his topic:

“Safely Navigating the Journey Through Your Golden Years” - focusing on safety on the road, safe-

ty at home and how to avoid senior scams.

Mark your calendar to hear about the fabulous life journey. There will be a sign-up sheet on the cof-

fee counter until January 6th.

May each of you experience God’s richest blessings in the New Year 2019.

Faces in the Crowd Katelynn Louise Fairley was born November 26th to Doug and Stephh Fairley.

She was 6 lbs. 6 oz. and was delivered at home with the help of Midwives of Windsor. She is the first Fairley home birth since 1929 when Harry was born on Westminster Ave. Grant and Cari Fairley are the proud grandparents!

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Bill Craig who passed away in November. Bill was a former member of Forest Glade Baptist Church and a faithful member of Banwell who we will miss.

A special thank you is extended to Daniel Blata (Sr.) for providing his skills to re-place two toilets saving our budget significantly. Volunteers are always needed!

Can You Assist? There are members of our congregation who could use assistance with basic household needs such as yard clean up. If you can assist, please advise Lino Braccio. This is a great opportunity for high school students to accumulate volunteer credit hours for their school requirements.

Christmas Decorations

The Season’s very special decorations seen throughout our building are due to

the creative work of the decorating team of Donna Soper, Deborah Martel, and

Chantelle Bell. We extend our thanks for their creative work. Great work!

From the News ‘n Views Staff
