Who is Banksy?

• Anonymous England-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter

• Was doing graffiti as early as 1991, but has recently become more famous in the U.S. because of his film ExitThrough the Gift Shop, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010

• Started doing stencil street art around 2000

• Known for his contempt for the government in labeling graffiti as vandalism, Banksydisplays his art on public surfaces such as walls and even going as far as to build physical prop pieces

• Much of his work has political or social meaning
