Financial Services Companies are dealing with the huge task of Managing information. Bill Gates deals with the management of information in this book, “Business @ The Speed Of Thought”In a Financial Services company systems must be in place to handle not just domestic business, but global business as well. Email and Dialup/Web access will address communication needs. Rounding out the use of these systems is Training.

Domestic Systems
Systems are needed to Clear and Settle Purchases & Sales of Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and other Instruments. Additional systems must be in place to handle Corporate Actions and Lending activity. Funds Transfer Systems are need to to move funds domestically. If Company A Sells 100 Shares of Microsoft those shares will in most cases move through the DTC System.

Domestic Systems
If a Customer Sold Shares of Microsoft Holdings and requested that the proceeds be wired to them, The Fund Transfer System would come into play
If there was a stock split on those same Microsoft shares, a Corporate Actions system would come into play for notification of the new share distribution.

Global Systems
Systems are needed for the purchase and sale of Foreign Securities as well as their Foreign Currency equivalents.Systems must be in place to handle complex Securities Lending, Corporate Actions and Swift Payment activitySystems must be in place to handle Research on current and historic items.

Global Systems
If a Customer purchased a UK Security a system would house the position for that security once purchased as well as Pay for that Security in GBP by debiting a GBP currency account
A Corporate Action event may take place on that security allowing for the purchase of Share Rights for a specific time period based on account holding.

Systems are needed for Email Communications in the Domestic and Global environments.
Companies need to communicate internally with departments (Intranet) and externally with clients (Internet)
Request for meetings and meeting rooms can be made via Email and Calendar systems.

Via Email Villages a whole department handling Settlement issues be contacted via one email addressClients can be notified via Email of Early Closing hours on certain daysCalendaring tools allow for inviting users to sessions as well as checking availability of meeting rooms.

Systems should be in place for customer to give settlement instructions via a Dialup Client into a companies System (Mainframe or Website)Customers should be able to place inquiries online to various department for problem resolutionCustomers should have dialup access to a Knowledge base of Product/Service Information.

Customer Dialup/Web Systems
A Customer can input on their Client Software Purchase of shares of Microsoft as well as a Sale of a UK Security and receive confirmation that their order was received.When the Customer does not see their order finalized they can place an online inquiry and be assigned a tracking number for followup with the specific area.Customers should have access to Knowledge bases on Stocks or UK Securities.

Training
Computer Based Training Systems should be in place for Internal Training of Department Staff as well as External Training for Customer on New Product Offerings.
Customers should be able to access this training on an on going and need to know basis.

Training
When a new System is developed for Customer Order Entry for Financial Instruments the Customer can order the CBT Course providing Simulated Training on the new Order Entry Software Package.
Before the CBT package is released to the Customer the Internal Staff will have already been trained on the package via special version designed for Internal use.
