ABOUT THE ARTISTSBANDALOOP honors nature, community and the human spirit through perspective-bending dance. A pioneer in vertical performance, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography and climbing technology to turn the dance floor on its side. Under the artistic direction of Amelia Rudolph, the work re-imagines dance, activates public spaces and inspires wonder and imagination in audiences around the world. BANDALOOP trains dancers and youth at home and on tour, and has performed live for over a million people. BANDALOOP last performed at the Hopkins Center in 2004. BANDALOOP.org

Amelia Rudolph founder/artistic director is a choreographer, dancer/athlete, teacher and community leader. Her work is informed by natural and built spaces and human relationships, and by non-traditional relationships with gravity. She founded BANDALOOP in 1991, bringing together dance, climbing and varied off- the-ground movement into site-reactive performances on cliffs and urban structures and in theaters. She is an active and dynamic performer, a co-leader for Creative Capital’s Professional Development Program, teaches youth in Oakland, CA, through Destiny Arts Center, and recently served on the board of Dance/USA. Last summer, Rudolph completed the NEA funded re-mount of Crossing, filmed in the Sierra Nevada mountains, which became the short film SHIFT; and she is now preparing for the launch of her next mountain work, Coyote Waltzes, in Yosemite.

Rudolph holds bachelors and masters degrees in comparative religion from Swarthmore College and the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. Her intellectual and artistic sensibilities inform her work inspiring practical, spiritual, theoretical and political creativity. Her choreography has

explored dance in theaters and on buildings and cliffs across the US and in 17 countries around the world. She is continually challenged and inspired by her experiences in nature, with her dancers and with communities that unearth and clarify her values, identity and art. Rudolph and BANDALOOP have been designated by the Trisha Brown Company to re-mount and perform Brown’s seminal work Man Walking Down the Side of a Building exclusively throughout the world with performances in Paris and Vienna this fall. The recent BANDALOOP video Waltz on the Walls of City Hall, in which Amelia is featured, garnered two million views on YouTube.

Virginia Broyles dancer, originally from Atlanta, studied at American University, DC, and University of Georgia, where she received her BFA and was a member of CORE Concert Dance Company directed by Bala Sarasvati. In addition to her own dance and video work, Broyles has performed with Rob Esposito, Rebecca Enghauser, Helen Pickett, Catellier Dance Projects, Hallie Dalsimer, Alison Williams, Simpson/Stulberg Collaborations, Alternativa, Scott Wells & Dancers and is a founding member of vîv dance company.

Sarah Keeney dancer is an Oakland-based teacher, choreographer and performer. Keeney has taught at universities, orphanages, studios and schools and in the street. She currently teaches at San Francisco’s ODC and Alonzo Kings Lines Dance Center, and for BANDALOOP. Keeney performs with punkkiCo, BANDALOOP and Fog Beast, and is artist-in-residence at The Propbox Studios in East Oakland. Since moving to the Bay Area, she has also performed with The Carpetbag Brigade, Scott Well & Dancers, Fog Beast, Nina Haft, Bianca Cabrera’s Blind Tiger Society, Lizz Roman and Cielo Vertical Arts, and in her own work.

Danny Nguyen dancer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, has been dancing and performing internationally since 2007. He received a BA from the University of California, Berkeley, in dance and performance studies. Shortly after graduating, Nguyen toured with the Broadway musical Blast!, performing in the United States, South Korea and Japan. Since then, he has performed works by Katie Faulkner, Joe Goode and Fog Beast. Nguyen has been dancing with BANDALOOP since 2013. When he is not dancing Nguyen enjoys being on his bike.

Roel Seeber dancer started dancing at age 10 in New York City, break dancing with the 560 Breakers. After pursuing a career as a downhill skier, he started formal dance training at the University of Utah. From there he transferred to the conservatory of dance at Purchase College, State University of New York, where he graduated cum laude with a BFA in dance. In 2001, Seeber joined the Limon Dance Company where he danced until joining BANDALOOP in March 2008. Additionally, he has studied martial arts, flying trapeze, and has taught Limon-based dance around the US and in Europe.
