Provisional suggestions for the project include: Partnership with community based organisations primarily the local councils. Council sponsored events would have an OD promotional content for which NHSBT/Trust ODCs would provide personnel /material. Recruit “donation champions” who with training and funding would promote OD in schools, GP surgeries, and by events in the community. Train practice nurses for enrolling patients in the ODR Involve local universities. Make as much use of the local press and have a presence at local events such as ‘Fair in the Square’.

• Recruitment of members of NHS Trusts to provide a firm community base for ODCs efforts.

Comments: The Royal Free Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for a number of specialities including liver and renal transplant, hepatobiliary surgery, oncology and HIV, it is also a primary PCI centre and provides care to Cypriot and private Arab patients. Therefore the ethnicity of the local community is of reduced significance.

Primary BAME communities: The area surrounding the Whittington hospital has a laregly white british or white European, affluent population. The majority of residents are christian with a number of muslim and jewish communities Previous BAME activities/events: Staff engagement activity, all staff working at the trust were sent an ODR registration leaflet with payslips. 2014 plans: In 2014 the Organ Donation Comitte at Whittington NHS hope to enter a three way partnership with NHSBT and Islington Borough Council to promote blood and organ donation to its local communities. Primary BAME communities: Barnet has a laregly white british, affluent population. There is also a large Jewish population. With the recent closure of Chase Farm we have seen a new increased attendance from other North London areas and wait to see what effect this will have on our hospital community. Previous BAME activities/events: Enfield Town Show – participated in a stall over two days, alongside a representative from blood donation with an aim to increase registrants to ODR and blood donor register. 2014 plans: GP Assisted choice programme in Enfield. Enfield Town Council and NHSBT partnership. Hospital/Trust name: Barking, Havering & Redbridge Hospital’s Trust – Queen’s & King George Hospitals Borough: Barking, Havering & Redbridge % on ODR: Barking & Dagenham = 14.3% Havering = 22.3% Redbridge = 17.2% Average over 3 boroughs = 17.9% SNOD: Maggie Stevens, Rachel Partington, Catriona Grieve, Julie Fitzpatrick CLOD: Dr. Farrel Igielman Chair: Dr. Maureen Dalziel Spiritual leaders ODC member: Tim Coleman Primary BAME communities: Asian, Afro-Carribbean.
