INTRODUCTION:

Baluchistan is one of the 4 provinces of Pakistan.

It constitutes roughly 40-43% of the land mass with only 5%-7% share in the population.

SIGNIFICANCE

It has the richest mineral and natural resources in the country

Sui Gas: 70 % gas from Baluchistan. It produces natural gas worth Rs.85 billion annually.

SIGNIFICANCE:

The Sui gas is the single largest source of energy supply for industries, power generation, agriculture, commerce and domestic use all over Pakistan.

INJUSTICE WITH BALUCHISTAN

While all the cities, towns and many of the villages in Pakistan enjoy the benefit of the gas produced in Baluchistan, only the military cantonments, four of the 28 districts and 250 of the 28,000 villages of Baluchistan enjoy the benefit.

In 2011 NATO attack in Pakistan (also known as the Salala Incident) occurred when U.S. led NATO forces engaged Pakistani forces at two Pakistani military check posts along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border on Saturday, 26 November 2011. 24 soldiers embraced Shahadat.

MILITANCY RELATED INCIDENTS:Quetta continues to witness high levels

of violence, both by Islamist extremists and Baloch nationalists.

There were 101 militancy-related incidents in Quetta during 2010, as against 73 in 2009, 81 in 2008, 72 in 2007, 75 in 2006, 61 in 2005, 51 in 2004 and 32 in 2003.

BALUCHISTAN USED BY U.S.A

Due to its common border with Afghanistan, the United States considers Balochistan territory as important for military operations against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. In fact, the United States has military bases in Dalbandin and Pasni on the Balochistan coast.

Giving due share in natural resources.

Better image of Pak Army in province.

No unnecessary presence of military forces in Balch.

Pakistan Army should run a recruitment drive for Baloch.

SOLUTION OF PROBLEMS Engagement of Baloch leaders by the

political leadership to neutralize the extremist/separatist segments of their group. The Balochis must negotiate the issues with the political leadership.

The Baloch must be given due representation in state institutions.

Baluchistan should be given priority and preference for Sui gas and minerals.

Role of Judiciary :

Provision of basic national rights to the Baloch.

Action on the missing persons

Peace and rule of law must be ensured.
