Market Summary ReportNovember 2015Soft CommoditiesSugar prices rose on LIFFE London (+9%), as productionin Brazil fell 33% y-o-y in the first half of September dueto heavy rainfall which hampered the harvest. Cocoabean prices rose on LIFFE London (+11%) after theestimate for gross production in 2014/15 was revised to4.16m tonnes, down 5% y-o-y, below the previousforecast of 4.17m tonnes.

Oils & FatsSoyabean oil prices fell in Rotterdam (-2%), Palm oilprices rose strongly in Indonesia (+20%), Malaysia(+20%) and Rotterdam (+14%) after reaching sixyear lows. This is due to concerns that production inIndonesia and Malaysia may be lower than expected dueto the strengthening El Nino, which is expected to peaklater this year. Palm kernel oil prices also rose inRotterdam (+29%) and Coconut oil prices rose (+10%)as traders reacted to concerns about the El Nino.

GrainsMilling wheat prices rose on CBOT US (+8%), in Australia(+4%), on LIFFE Paris (+3%) and in Canada (+1%) dueto dry weather conditions in Australia and the Black Searegion. Oat prices fell in the UK (-5%) and Finland (-1%),but rose on CBOT US (+1%).

IngredientsTurkish hazelnut prices continued to fall slightly lastmonth (-1%), as Turkey is expecting a bumper hazelnutcrop this year. Almond prices declined in the US (-5%)and in Spain (-11%). However, US prices remain up 12%y-o-y. Almond production in California is estimated at800,000 tonnes in 2015/16, down 4% y-o-y followingadverse dry weather conditions. For dried fruit, Turkishsultanas fell (-3%) as did US raisins (-1%). Turkish driedapricot prices were up (+3%) while desiccated coconutwas lower in the Philippines.

VegetablesAs the potato harvest is in full swing, prices continued tofall on average across the EU (-7%), with declines seenfor the UK (-10%). Onion prices were still mixed acrossthe EU with prices increasing in the UK (+18%).

Milk & DairyMilk supply has increased within the EU, creating higherproduction levels for dairy products. Average UK farmgate milk prices were down (-1%) m-o-m in August. EUbutter prices increased (+3%) on average. SMP prices inEurope have increased (+5%) in September, caused by afall in world production. WMP prices in Europe haveincreased (+10%), due to tighter supplies. AverageEuropean shell egg prices have increased (+1%).

EnergyBrent crude oil prices fell on ICE London (-6%) due to theglobal oversupply of oil and concerns the slowdown indemand could keep stocks high well into 2016. EU petrolprices fell (-16%) and EU diesel (-3%).

After some 32 years with BakoWales, AlunRichards retired on 28th August 2015.

Alun joined Bako Wales in 1983 working for KenForbes at the Bako facility in Llansamlet Swansea,with a total staff of just seven. He has acted as thecompany accountant since 1983 and with his fellowstaff, have steadily expanded the firm to the size itis today.

Alun was born and bred in Swansea and in hisyounger days played cricket for Ynys Tawe. He is aseason ticket holder at Swansea City and has beenan active supporter for many years.

It is clear from comments received from other Bakosites and fellow members, since making his plansknown, that his wisdom and professionalism willbe missed by many.

We are very grateful to Alun for his dedication andcommitment during his tenure at the helm of thefinance function at Bako Wales. I am certain thatBako Wales will carry on - business as usual - butAlun will be missed and we thank him for his yearsof service and hard work which has made the mostsignificant contribution to becoming the successfulfirm that it is today. Alun will leave a legacy for allof us to continue to strive for, and we wish him avery happy retirement.
