JANUARY, 1979
Dear Loved Ones,
Merry Christmas even though its
kind of late, and may God bless you
as
we
celebrate th e birth
of
our Lord
and Saviour.
Christmas
is such a
joyous t ime of the year and it's a pri-
viledge to be able to
share
it with
Christians like you. People like you
also
make
it possible
fo r
us to have a
more
beautiful
Christmas.
1978 has been a year of many
changes
in
our
lives
an d
in our work.
I hope that these changes will not
alter your a t ti tude towards our
work
and ourselves,
because we feel that
th e Lord has guided us in these chan
ges. Please continue to support us,
especially by your prayers.
This year I have also found myself
teaching a nursery class at a day
school. It has really been a great joy
teaching little children so many new
things, but wha t excites me th e most
is that I
am able
to teach t hem s to
ries
a bo ut our
Lord Jesus .
I am
so
glad
that
the school permits it. I also
teach the Bible stories in chapel
every
day,
plus
a lesson in
th e
class
room
as part
of
th e
c la ss room work
once a week. I am also teaching the
music classes for the school. I enjoy
my work very, very much.
Billy

It

blessing having her a round. It also
has left me free to do many other
things. Thanks;:Margie
Christmas t ime
is also a time
which has kept me very busy with
church participation.
I
have been
practicing
with th e
Youth Choir
fo r
ou r church for the Christmas
pro
g ram, whi ch ha s been lots of fun.
They also put on a play about the
birth of J esu s w it h
some
beautiful
puppets. They did a beautiful job.

COLLEGE TOUR
During the early part of February,
a team from Platte Valley BibleCol
lege will be visiting with the Baker's
and
also
some of the work
in Mexico.
The team will be composed of mem
bers of the PVBC missions club.
More
will be done during the visit
than
simply
having a few days off
from
school
for a
vacation.
The team
is preparing a presentation which will
be
directed to
various churches in
sou th Texas and
also northern
Mexi
co. This experience will allow for a
first
hand
look at
the
mission field in
addition to providing assistance on
the field in the areaof evangelism.
One
of the projectsof the trip will'
include
distributing
upwards to
2,000 New
Testaments
in
the
areas
where the services will be held
each
evening. Bill has already begun the
process
of
getting the New Testa
ments
strategically located within
Mexico. During the past two weeks,
he has transported over 600 Testa
ments into Mexico.
Since border authori t ies are hesi-
•tant in allowing a shipment
of
2,000
Testaments to cross at one time, Bill
. is ge tti ng the Tes tamen ts in as fast as
, th e authori ties will allow. He has
been questioned on several different
occasions as to what he is doing with
the books, but until now, none of
the tes taments
have
been
confisca
ted.
All
of
th e
testaments
have th e
LPlan .qf^aivation included on the in-
i side front cover. Placing those sheets
is
j ust one
of the activities which has
kept Bill s mother occupied during
her winter stay in Eagle Pass. To
date, she has pastedJn over 3,000
sheets containing the Plan
of
Salva
t ion
Please be in prayer for the
group
from
PVBC
as they prepare for their
adventure into Mexico. Also ask for
the Lord's blessing on the various
persons who
will
be contacted during
their week of missionary visitation

t iv ity scene , bu t I see it didn't last
very long, on our
way home she
was
acting like a

The news about my sister' s l it tle
boy is very encouraging. In August
they
had given him 3
days
to live be
cause
of
his lukemia.
Praise
God
He
is doing very good now and seems to
be improving all th e time. Please
keep praying for him.

Mexico.
We hope and pray that you will
continue to
support
us
both finan
cially and spiritually. You have really
been a great source of encourage
ment
in our lives.
Thank
you so
much for your support in
1978.

God bless you and lead you in His

PROGRESS
REPORT
Work cont inues on several differ
ent
printed
projects
centered
to meet
th e
needs of our churches in Mexico.
During a recent
trip
into Mexico, Bill
showed the
final

a
new
calling booklet to
several
national
church
workers.
The
response
from
all of
them
was the same,
How
soon
will
these materials be ava il ab le
fo r
me
to
use in
my minis try? The
an
swer, Within the next
month ,
was
well received
by
all.
The calling program, a planned
system for personal evangeli sm is
based on the calling booklet.desig.ned
by
Frank
Bush, President
of Platte
Valley Bible College. The final sys
tem
will
contain both
a flip
chart
and
a smaller
size
booklet
both
containing
actual
reproductions from
printed scripture explaining God's
plan for salvation. A third compo

book
let, will be produced at a later t ime
and will be used in
conjunction
with

The wor k of

is

determined
by
th e transportation
which

those
of us
who are working

When on e o f o ur

I am beginning to build up a reputa

in this
area

vehicle breakdowns.
It
all started several years ago (7 in
fact).
At
that time, I was a junior at Platte Valley
Bible College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. I
had
th e goal a t t hat time of
taking
a large
group on
a
t ou r
o f
Mexico.
It
wa s
to
wards t h a t end
t h a t
a 1965 Chevrolet
school bus (56 passenger) was purchased.
Afte r adapt ing the bu s
to
meet the 'heeds
of a 5,000 mile trip from Scottsbluff to
Mexico City
and th e return,
30 of us
left
Scottsbluff for an
eventful trip
into Mexi
co . Th e
week was a
great experience for
all
of
us,
but
as we
were
returning from
Mexico City during
th e
end
of th e
week,
we blew the engine on ou r bus . We
man
aged to replace th e unrepairable block
on
t h e
side
o f th e road in
t h e
middle o f t h e
Mexican
desert
and
were back
on t he
way
within
tw o
and
a
half days.
The
next episode in
ou r
saga of car
prob lems concerned a ca r
w hich w e w ere
using five years ago. Upon leaving Eagle
Pass at 10 o'clock in the evening for a
speaking engagement and camp program
in
Indiana, the
front
lifters went out on
our
car approx ima te ly
12 5
miles from
Eagle Pass. We
were abl e
to
borrow
an
other
car
and make
it to Indiana
just
five
minutes after the Sunday morning service
was ended. In an effort to save money, I
replaced on ly the lifters on that engine
and had it back in
the
running for a trip
to Nebraska and
then
to
Lowe r Cal if or
nia, a state of Mexico. In Nebraska, it was
determined that th e entire engine
needed
to be rebuil t. So,
on
a Monday morning
just 6 days p rior to our engagement in
Lower Californ ia, I began pulling the
engine in Gering, Nebraska. The engine
was back in and
running
on Wednesday
evening
th e same
week.
We
made
it
to
California and that engine
ran
f or over
60,000
miles following
that
rebuild.
It
was still
running
very well when we were
involved
in a
n ea r fatal
a c c i d e n t
near
Oklahoma City.

It was

th e Girls

was
directing at th e time. Again we were in
th e middle

a
choir presentat ion.
The
choir
made
it without
the

only
three
hours late. Yet, the people
from
that church in Saltillo were still anxiously
waiting fo r
the
arrival o f t he choir.

th e b est

Because

we pu r

summer we found
ourselves
replacing the
engine in that car also.
Just
as I was retur
ning to Eagle Pass with the
new
engine, I
incurred a hofe in the oi] pan and ruined
the new
engine
I had
decided
to just
park
the
car and
then
work on
the
engine
when f u n d s became avai la b le . I t was t h e n
that I
decided to check w ith my insur

would
pay fo r th e rebuild. After four
months
of
problems with
th e car, I picked it up
just
a few weeks ago. Insurance paid /•

We are
now finally running on

I

an

During ou r most

the Mercedes, my mother showed me a
^hand-written fjopy of the poem Don't
Quit . I have included
that poem with
this newsletter.
It has
been
an

DON'T QUIT
When things go wrong, as they sometime will
When the road you 're trudgingseemsall up hill
Whenfunds are low and debts high
And when you
want
to smile bu t
you
have to sigh
And
when care is pressing
you down
a
bi t
Rest ifyou must, but don't you quit
Life is queer
with
its twist and turns
As everyone o f
us sometimes learns
And
many
a
failure
turns
about
When he might have won, had he s tuck it
out
Don't give up
though th e pace
seems slow
You may succeed with
another
blow
Often
the goal
is
nearer
then
It
seems
to a
f ain t and
flatering
man.
Often the struggler
ha s
given up
When he
might have captured the victor's cup
And he learned
to late,
when
the
nite slipped down
How close he was to the golden
crown
Success
is failure
turned inside out
The
silver
tint
o f
the c loud
o f
doubt
And you can never tell how close you are
I t
may be
ner
when
it seems afar
So
stick
to the fight when your hardest hi t
It s
when things seem worst that you musn't quit
