Backup Considerations

Will my infrastructure be supported?

How quickly will my backups complete?

Will my data be there when I need it?

What is the investment compared to other backup solutions?

Why SEP sesam for your Oracle Environment?

One Solution for the Entire Enterprise Because SEP sesam supports such a wide range of products, enterprises can consolidate all backup needs to one solution and have one central management console.

Performance SEP sesam’s architecture is only limited by the connection speed and hardware configuration. Up to 64 data streams to tape and unlimited to disk or to the cloud!

ReliabilitySet it and forget it reliability. Once a backup completes successfully, the data is ALWAYS there, no exceptions!

Cost The best TCO, ROI and performance in the industry.

A Single Console to Manage All Sites

• The powerful Master GUI allows the System Administrator to layer multiple GUI’s to manage infinite local or remote locations.

• Access backups from the main backup server or any authorized desktop, laptop, or workstation.

• Back up or restore data from locally attached storage, across the WAN, or from the cloud.

• Customize and save different GUI layouts and views for fast and efficient use.

Customer Results

Vodafone Europe: 3,500 remote sites backed up simultaneously.

US National Archiving and Records Administration (NARA): Enterprise email system backups decreased from 6+ days to 11 hours.

Port of San Diego: Backup times went from 100+ hours and regularly failing to under 4 hours without errors. Oracle backups decreased from 4+ hours to 42 minutes.

Public Works and Government Services of Canada: 42 locations backed up across the country.

Multi Streaming Technology• Unlimited simultaneous backup streams, resulting in at least a

50% decrease in backup windows.

SEP Easy Archive• SEP Easy Archive uses WORM (Write Once Read Many)

Technology to prevent unintentional loss or deletion of data as well as unauthorized edits, changes or deletion of data.

Deduplication• Destination side and source side available.• Reduces the need for more expensive storage and replication.

Generic Drivers• Supports any hardware/media recognized by the O/S.

SEP sesam Features

Oracle Backup

SEP sesam supports the following functions:

• Backup level: copy, full, differential, incremental and Archivelog• Database Point-in-Time Recovery• Parallel Backup Channels: Increase backup times• Archive Log Handling (Example: Delete archive logs after backup or

after 3 successful backups)• Restore Control File with or without RMAN catalog• Recover After Restore

All backup methods are fully managed and integrated into a heterogeneous, cross-platform, centralized

solution.

Page 13: Backup and Disaster Recovery for Oracle in Physical, Virtual, and Cloud Environments

Oracle Databases• SEP sesam is compatible with Oracle Linux or any mixed O/S

environment

• Data is written directly from database to backup media without writing the data to an intermediate landing zone firsto Communicates directly with RMAN

o Instantly reduces required Oracle DB disk space by 50%, saving money on hardware costs

• Data is delivered directly to Database, Tablespace and Data File-Level Backup and Restores

Bare Metal Recovery

BMR for Linux Servers

• Restore entire servers, operating systems, and databases quickly and easily using a universal boot medium.

• Easily restore the environment to full operation within minutes.

• Can be controlled by a single point of administration.

• Disk drive and system failures need no longer be a devastating occurrence.

• Available for Virtual Machines

For a single Oracle server, the SEP sesam client and SEP sesam Oracle client

provide the backup capabilities for up to five SIDs:

Each 1x Oracle DB package

Licensing:1x Data Backup Client (DC)

1x Oracle online module (includes 5 SID)

O/S: Windows 2000Oracle Database

SEP sesam provides many options to enhance security and assist in meeting

compliance requirements:

• The backup data streams can be encrypted to protect access to the guest

virtual machine backup from unauthorized users.

• Logs can be sent to a syslog server to maintain a single centralized location for

tracking information.

• Notifications can be sent to email addresses or cell phones to provide

immediate alerts for failed or completed jobs.

• These options are all part of the SEP sesam notification system that can be

used to bring backup information into a centralized audit system.

Oracle Security

Page 22: Backup and Disaster Recovery for Oracle in Physical, Virtual, and Cloud Environments

SEP sesam fully supports backup of all Oracle System Identifier (SID)

instances in a high-availability Oracle RAC environment.

• As the SEP sesam components communicate directly with the RAC SID

virtual IP addresses, backup tasks are able to properly follow the SIDs if

they have moved over to a different RAC host.

High-Availability
