● I have taught all grades 1-6● Education:

Expectations
o Your child should be prepared and on time for school► **Please be here by 8:20... Students are to be in the
classroom at 8:30!
o Get a good night’s rest.o Eat a healthy breakfast, snack, and luncho Please notify the school office when your
child is absent and if you would like to pick up homework after school.
o Please schedule doctor’s appt. and any leisure activities after school hours.
o Please make sure your child is in school unless ill. ATTENDANCE COUNTS! 98% is our goal!!!

Language Arts ProgramMcGraw-Hill’s “Wonders” ELA ProgramConsists of:• Reading: Literature & Informational Text
• Vocabulary/Spelling • Language• Writing – 3 genres• Social Studies & Science are incorporated
throughout the units• Every unit will have a Unit Assessment, which is
their major grades per trimester (about 2 per trimester). Weekly assessments will be given, however two out of five weeks will be counted for their overall grade (particular weeks per teacher discretion.

Character Counts!Behavior
o Please remind your child to follow school and classroom rules.• Show respect• Make good decisions• Solve problems• Follow directions the first time• Follow the Golden Rule
o Aim High tickets, table points, marble jar are used as positive reinforcement.
o Incident logs, as well as Major/Minor Offense forms, are used as consequences

Mathematics Program► Mastery of multiplication & division facts is a must for
success in 4th grade math
► Practice test will be sent home for homework the night before the actual test
► Students will have daily math homework, and this needs to be done so students can succeed in mathematics.
► Students should also be familiar with their Class Link Login so that they can access tools and homework, as well as explanatory videos online at any time.

Science
• Science program: life, earth, & physical science• We are moving to NGSS aligned units of study, which for
fourth grade are: Animal Senses, Earthquake Engineering, Sculpting Landscapes, Renewable Energy and Car Crashes.
• Your student will be participating in a variety of labs, experiments, hands-on activities, as well as traditional lessons.
• The Cal Aero Science Fair is near the end of the year and very fun! Date: TBA

Social Studies
• Focus: geography & history of California• Each trimester we will cover different topics,
such as Native Americans, the Missions, and the Gold Rush, etc. These topics will have varied performance tasks or assessments.
• California Project & oral report during third trimester (due at Open House). Further details to come at the beginning of the last trimester.

Classwork
o It is important that each student complete his/her classwork. Classwork reinforces the skills taught in class. If classwork is not finished in the time allotted, the student may have to complete it during recess or at home. To ensure that students always do their best, they may, on occasion, be asked to do an assignment over.

Homework
► ** Homework will be written in agendas by students daily Monday through Thursday.
► **Homework and SIGNED agendas are due at the START of class each day.
► **District guidelines:
► 60–90 minutes daily
15-20 minutes of silent reading daily
► **Students may have to complete incomplete homework during recess

Absences/Leaving Earlyo Students are required to make up any
classwork and homework they missed while being absent.
o Students have 1 day for each day absent to complete and turn in work.
o Absences longer than five school days require Independent Study (see front office).
o If your child is leaving early, please let me know in advance. I can have them packed & ready to go...

Birthdays
► Per school policy: - No birthday celebrations by parents- Students may donate a book or supplies to
the classroom/school library in honor of his/her birthday
- Any food items, treats, or gifts for the class will not be allowed and cannot be passed out before, during, or after school.

o Replenish your child’s supplies as needed
o Please check with your child’s teacher about what supplies are needed. Things that are ALWAYS in need are:

► Cleaning wipes (antibacterial)
