My name is Chenoa Point (Kwasilwit) and I am a Member of the Snuneymuxw First Nations. My parents are Tina Point and Vern Olson and my Grandparents are Nina Point and (Late) Spencer Point. I have two beautiful children their names are Tehya Point (12 years old ) and Kaileigh Point (9 Months old).
I have recently become employed by the Snuneymuxw First Nation and will be working with Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh school as the Full Time Receptionist. I look forward to meeting everyone and working alongside with the community. I also look forward to be able to work with our children as they are our future. I am at Qwam Qwum Monday- Friday 8am -3pm, please feel free to stop in anytime if you have any questions.

Good Day Snuneymuxw Mustimuxw;
I am Ms. Terena Ross daughter to Lolly Good and late Donald Ross of Lax Kw’alaams Band in Port Simpon, BC. On my mother’s side (Good) I have 4 siblings Lisa Chapman, Darren Good, Dione Jones, Edward Good. I am a proud mother of one Daughter Denean Fred and proud Grandma of one Grandson Blair Jr. I graduated from John Barsby High School and then continued on to Graduate with my MOA Diploma.
I was employed at Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School for the past 15 years where I had the privilege to work alongside the late Barbara White who mentored me and encouraged me to be a successful and hardworking Snuneymuxw member and to utilize my education and training in my position and in my community. Working in my own community has taught me to be respectful, kind, honest and passionate person not only to myself but to others. And I would like to thank the parents of the students who attend Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School for the privilege of working with their children.
I am very happy and excited to be working in my new position as Education and Employment Support Worker. When I first became employed with Snuneymuxw First Nation the Education Department was located at Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School and this is where I gained relationships, knowledge and experience working in Education. In my new position I will utilize my training , work experience, and knowledge to meet Snuneymuxw First Nation’s expectations for Education and its membership and provide equal opportunity to all Snuneymuxw membership.

Snuneymuxw Law & Justice Project Celebration Feast
The University of Victoria Faculty of Law has embarked on a research project with 5 First Nation com-munities across the country to glean traditional law and traditional legal processes which will inform a UVic law degree in Indigenous law. Snuneymuxw was one of the communities selected to partici-pate. The research project was focused on identifying our traditional form of governance when con-flict and harm arises, how we address it and our forms of peace-making.
Snuneymuxw First Nation hired Erralyn Thomas as the “community coordinator” for the project and she worked alongside Geraldine Manson who identified Elders to interview and guided the process.
We would like to raise our hands to the Elders and support staff who took the time out of their day to participate in this traditional research project, to provide their energy, teachings and oral traditions for the benefit of Snuneymuxw Mustimuxw.
To celebrate Snuneymuxw participation in the project a feast was held on Monday, August 20 at the Community Kitchen. The feast including fresh crab donated by Noel Brown.

Korean Central Presbyterian Church Summer Camp
Snuneymuxw youth have enjoyed the 2nd annual Korean Central Presbyterian Church (KCPC)
summer camp at the Nanaimo Native Victory Church. The youth bible camp was held from August 20
to the 24. Over 50 youth participated in the camp which included singing, crafts and games.
The KCPC has teamed up with the Nanaimo Native Victory Church to offer support, assist in repairs
and to build a foundation for friendship. KCPC and leaders spend two months preparing and training
for the bible camp. The youngest youth leader volunteer was 12 years old. There were 42 volunteers in
total who worked to offer the camp.
At the beginning of summer KCPC went house to house and gave out gifts to all on-reserve
Snuneymuxw. They concluded their two week-long visit with a community dinner and service that
offered traditional Korean foods.
The KCPC would like to thank Snuneymuxw for its support and say how friendly and exciting the
Snuneymuxw community is.

Attention to all tenants and members of SFN
The SFN housing department would like to remind SFN tenants and the SFN community of the
Party and Noise clause in SFN tenancy agreements. According to section 9.6 and 11.6 of our
tenancy agreements:
9.6 The Tenant shall not disturb the peace through acts either in or around the Premis-es, or within the community in general. Where Housing determines, in its sole discre-tion, acting reasonably, that the Tenant has disturbed the peace, the Tenant shall be in material default under this agreement.
11.6 Proceedings – Disturbing the Peace
Where Housing has a reasonable belief that the Tenant was disturbing the peace in and around the Premises; the Tenant shall be notified (Notice of Default) that they are in de-fault.
If the Tenant receives three (3) Notices of Default for disturbing the peace within any 12 consecutive month period this agreement shall be terminated and an Eviction Notice is-sued, requiring the Tenant to remove his or her belongings and vacate the Premises within five days of delivery of the Eviction Notice or by the last day of the month in which the Eviction Notice is issued, whichever is later to occur (the “Eviction Date”).
On the Eviction Date, the locks on the Premises will be changed at 3:00 p.m. Any personal effects will be put into storage. The Tenant is responsible for the payment of moving and storage charges. The Tenant will peacefully surrender the Premises.

Attention all SFN Members Fire Safety Issue
It has been noted by fire safety personnel that there are several shared driveways be-ing blocked by either vehicles and / or other items whereby emergency response crews
do not have direct access to homes in behind other homes.
This would significantly increase the emergency response time of fire safety personnel
Please keep driveways clear for emergency response vehicles at all times!
Warning Extreme Fire Hazard
The forest fire rating is at extreme, and caution is advised for all Snuneymuxw who
spends time outdoors.
Chances of a forest fire are as high they can be right now, with the forest fire risk in the
extreme range in the woods around our territory.
A lack of rain, combined with warm temperatures have created tinder-dry conditions
that can allow a fire to start and spread quickly.
That is only expected to get worse through the weekend, with Environment Canada
calling for hot temperatures through Saturday.
Please speak with your family specifically the children to warn them of the dangers!

Notice of Sewer Flushing
Beginning Wednesday September 12 Maintenance will begin sewer flushing on IR#1.
The work will continue all day. There are no dangers to you and your family. You may
experience a gurgling sound from your toilet. This is normal.

Power Line Brush-Cutting Notice
B.C. Hydro will be conducting some brush-cutting around power lines beginning the week of September 10
th. They will be doing this along Clifford Road, Cedar Road,
Raines Road and Gordon Road. You will notice trucks with the company name of Adept Vegetation Management – B.C. Hydro has subcontracted them to complete this brush-cutting maintenance.

SFN Pest Control
It is that time of year when various types of pests become more active. Please help SFN administra-
tion in combatting the problem!
Mice/rats –Cleaning the yard and house of open food sources (Dog/cat food, left over foods, deer
carcasses and skins) and also cutting grass and clearing all possible nesting areas (junk piles, burn
piles, old couches or beds, tires) in the yard will help control mice and rats.
Ants- pop/juice containers attract ants (any sweet foods or drinks). If these are left in the house or out-
side the house. Ants will be attracted to your home.
Bed bugs – are highly transferable and can move from home to home very quickly. Unfortunately
many travel through USED furniture. They can also travel through luggage and clothing. This bug is by
far the hardest to get rid of. Full cooperation from the tenant/home owner with our professional ser-
vice provider will be the only way to get rid of this bug.

Here is the process that you need to follow:
Please call Anna Wyse at the housing department to discuss the issue, (250)740-2300.You will need to identify the issue and supply your phone contact information. Eligibility will be determined. An approved contractor/supplier will be contacted via Anna Wyse. The contractor/supplier will contact you to arrange for an appointment for the service call. Anna will monitor the service call to make sure the issue is resolved in a timely manner. Please contact Anna if you believe the repair is taking too long.

Income assistance files still require crucial information missing such as declarations, ID, applications and current hydro bills etc. Please see Jennifer Delorme regarding the missing information on your file.
Failure to provide this missing information may disqualify you from receiving an income assistance cheque as per the Social Development policy sect. 3.3
Social Development strives to assist our community members to get off Social Assistance where possible. We have Billie-Ann who is our social development employment councilor. It is your responsibility to make appointments with her to develop a plan to work towards getting those tools and skills brushed up to enter the work force or go back to school.
SA clients who are classified as employable need to be scheduling appointments before next SA day. Failure to do this may affect your entitlement to receive income assistance. Billie Ann will be accepting appointments ASAP. We will be requesting the appoints be-ing booked with her As per Section 1.5 of the Social Development Policy Rights and Responsibilities of applicants and Recipients. Identification and other Documentation for SA Clients
Applicants and spouses are required to identify themselves and their dependents, as well as provide
confirmation of shelter costs, assets, and all sources of income, for the purpose of determining
eligibility.
At the time of application specific documents are required to determine eligibility and must be main-
tained on file. Until such time as these documents are on file, the family unit is not eligible for social
assistance or social assistance for persons with disabilities.
Identification Policy:
The applicant and spouse must each provide two pieces of identification, one of which must be
photo identification.
One piece of identification is required for each dependent child.

Offender identification card issued by Correctional services of Canada

Status Card Update
When issuing status cards we are required to ask for two pieces of valid ID for an
adult's application. For a child’s application we are required to ask for two pieces of val-
id ID for the parent and one piece for the child.
The ID must NOT be expired and one must be government issued digital ID
(Passport/Driver’s licence/BC ID/Government issues work ID)
ONLY the enhanced Driver’s license or Canadian Passport are valid for both pieces of
ID.
There are NO exceptions!

Food Fish Update
We regret to inform you that sockeye season has closed. There will be no more sockeye delivery. We were only able to deliver to ½ of our members: Elders and the disabled were served first. Some Nations didn’t receive any sockeye food fish and others only delivered to their elders. It was a poor year for sockeye fishing for all Nations not just ours.
However there will be more fishing in the near future for other salmon species. We will keep you posted.
When Food Fish is available we will post an update to the SFN Facebook Group and the website.
When Food Fish is available for off-reserve delivery, Administration staff will call all OFF-RESERVE MEMBERS to notify them of the dates and location of delivery.If you are calling or leaving a message about Food Fish please have the following information available:

Read Psalm 20:9 where the Bible says:
"Give victory to the King, O Lord; answer us when we call".
God answers us when we call. Not only does He hear us, He answers us.
God doesn't ignore our plight. He is aware of everything that comes against us.
Often we compound our troubles by imagining that God doesn't care what we
are going through--we feel that God is unaware of our distress.
Jesus also assured us in Matthew 10:29-31,"Not one sparrow( What do they cost?
Two for a penny?) can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it, and the very hairs
of your head are all numbered, so don't worry! You are more valuable to God than many sparrows.
This is our confidence: not only does God hears you, But He answers you. He cares about your struggles.
As a saying goes "Troubles roar like thunder, but the believer's voice will be heard above the storm.
God will hear you no matter what the nature of distress is, He will always be there: in trouble, adversity, need, calamity, whenever we are in turmoil. What adversity are you facing? Is it conflict in the family, financial problems, stress at work, emotion-
al problems, spiritual battles ?
No matter what the distress, God is there to meet your needs.
This is the promise of this Psalm: God will answer you in the day of trouble.
