Back to Bacharach Featuring John Pagano Since first setting out in the late ‘50s, Burt Bacharach raised the art of the pop song to a new level of sophistication – deftly balancing unprecedented rhythmic and harmonic innovation with a disarmingly open-hearted emotional sensibility that continues to resonate with audiences that span generations. Interpreting his compositions is challenge that John Pagano has undertaken – and triumphed at – night after night for eighteen years. As Bacharach’s first-call male vocalist, a position he holds to this day, Pagano has been featured on four of Bacharach’s albums and traveled the world with the composer, helping to introduce new material while inhabiting, enlivening, and making his own such classics as “Wives and Lovers” and “(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me.” Now, Pagano brings his profound understanding of Bacharach’s music together with his own unassailable instincts as an interpreter and bandleader in a new concert program entitled Back to Bacharach. Backed by a small combo, Pagano lives out the songs and uncovers new levels of depth and intimacy in even the most familiar moments. Along the way, Pagano acknowledges the great singers who have their indelible stamp on this material Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, and Karen Carpenter among them – while injecting his own blue-eyed soul roots into the mix. He sheds fresh light on the material by including several songs normally associated with female vocalists, while also highlighting some of Bacharach’s more recent compositions. Back to Bacharach follows Pagano’s two previous successful concert programs, A Soulful Musical Journey: Songs of Love and Inspiration, which focused on his love of vintage R&B, and Let’s Fall in Love – his radiant interpretations of material from the Great American Songbook. Pagano’s wide-ranging musical sensibility stems from his upbringing as part of an Italian family in Providence, Rhode Island. Now based in Los Angeles, Pagano has made a name for himself as a vocalist, songwriter, and recording artist, with three solo albums and a George Duke-produced track on the soundtrack to the Steve Martin film Leap of Faith to his credit – plus on-screen appearances in Adam Sandler’s Click and Jim Carey’s Yes Man. He has done so through a well-honed combination of innate talent, unfaltering good taste, and palpable, moving commitment to each and every performance he gives.

Back to Bacharach Featuring John Pagano

Since first setting out in the late ‘50s, Burt Bacharach raised the art of the pop song to a new level of sophistication – deftly balancing unprecedented rhythmic and harmonic innovation with a disarmingly open-hearted emotional sensibility that continues to resonate with audiences that span generations.

Along the way, Pagano acknowledges the great singers who have their indelible stamp on this material – Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, and Karen Carpenter among them – while injecting his own blue-eyed soul roots into the mix. He sheds fresh light on the material by including several songs normally associated with female vocalists, while also highlighting some of Bacharach’s more recent compositions.
