The phenomenon of globalisation affects economies, lifestyles, societies and politics. While it has had a disastrous effect on some economies, and therefore on lives, some effects have been positive as interconnectedness opens up opportunities for greater solidarity between people. Public Health is the science of protecting and improving community and population health via education, advocacy, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and research for disease and injury prevention. Students enrolling in the the Bachelor of Applied Public Health/Bachelor of Global Studies are typically those with an interest in the health and well-being of communities, combined with an interest in one or more discliplines related to big picture issues such as the social, political, cultural, legal, environmental and economic changes that are shaping the world. Students will combine this knowledge with a semester of study abroad at one of over 60 partner institutions around the world. As an alternative to studying abroad, selected students may have the opportunity to do an approved internship which would provide international work experience. COURSE STRUCTURE Students are required to complete a total of 32 units (320cp) consisting of: (a) 180 cp from Public Health units, consisting of: (i) 90 cp from Core Public Health units; (ii) 70 cp from Inter-professional units; (iii) 20 cp from Health Promotion units (b) 120 cp from Global Studies units consisting of ; (i) 40 cp from Global Studies Core units; (ii) 40 cp from the International Study/ Internship unit; (iii) 40 cp from Global Studies Electives; (c) 20cp from University Core units. ELECTIVES MAY BE DRAWN FROM: (Please note electives vary by campus) Business Communication Digital Journalism International Development Studies Economics Education Environmental Science Geography History Legal Studies Media Politics Sociology Study of Religions Note (Applicable to Melbourne students only): Students may be eligible to study sequences in Languages (Italian, Japanese, Chinese) at Swinburne University of Technology with the approval of the relevant Course Coordinator. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to engage effectively in the global workplace. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES A dual degree in Global Studies unlocks the door to a wide range of career pathways. Depending on your chosen course, the possibilities are endless. Below are examples of fields of employment opportunities: national/international health agencies and NGOs public sector, both local and international government service, including diplomatic service, both local and international the United Nations system and other international organisations social entrepreneurship and companies with a global outreach international relations PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE Students will have the opportunity to study or work overseas in an area relevant to their studies and interests. ElIGIBIlITy REqUIREMENTSThese prestigious double degree programs will be offered to high achieving students.

DElIVERy MODE AND lOCATIONOn campus – Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney campuses and 1 semester (40cp) abroad.

In order to satisfy funding regulations, the Study Abroad/Exchange/ International internship needs to be undertaken during the third year of study.
