Cook Up is the creative heart of BAC – everything we do to invent the future of theatre starts here. We support artists to develop new ideas, we offer opportunities for people of all ages to get creative and we host events across the building. We also provide a warm welcome with food and drink for visitors who come to hang out and soak up the atmosphere. Our Cook Up seasons include new Scratch ideas, runs of shows, music, parties and the some of the most exciting new shows touring to London.

Several times a year we present shows and projects that take over large parts of the building. These projects often transform the space and enable audiences to enjoy new perspectives of BAC’s home, Batter-sea’s former Town Hall. Tuck In productions provide you with a feast of new work and experiences to enjoy together.

Bursting out of the walls of BAC, our co-productions developed in partnership with artists are now starting to be presented across London, nationally and internation-ally, providing you with a chance to see the future of theatre in sites and venues across the UK and beyond.

Talk to us

From pumpkins to puppets, from large shows to small scratches, midnight feasts and late night music, there’s something for everyone in this year’s Christmas Cook Up. To kick us off in November, Forced Entertainment return to the Grand Hall for two weeks with The Coming Storm. On 23rd November, Neon Friday will celebrate the breadth and diversity of Artistic Director Tim Etchells’ work – come down to BAC and see film installations, a selec-tion of Tim’s neon art pieces around the building, catch his production of Sight is the Sense That Dying People Tend to Lose First, be part of the launch of his new book, Vacuum Days, and enjoy unusual cocktails devised by the man himself. Kneehigh dance BAC into December with Midnight’s Pumpkin, a glorious festive show for adults and children and the perfect way to bring friends and family together for Christmas and New Year. Join us at the ball, have supper here, and click through the brochure to discover what else you can do and see during your visit. There will be lots happening every night, from Little Bulb Theatre pre-show scratch performances, shows we loved at Edinburgh this year, including Josie Long’s Romance and Adventure, through to the Latest BAC Homegrown Pro-duction, christmassy food and late night entertainment in our café bar. If you would like to hold your Christmas party here, perhaps even around a performance, do get in touch with Freddie on 020 7326 8237 or [email protected] to find out more – we would love to host you. We usher in the new year with an epic puppet tale, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings from Little Angel Theatre in association with Kneehigh, which runs until 19th January. It is beautiful. Over the last 12 months or so, regular visitors will have noticed changes and improvements to our building. Our plans to restore and renew our spaces will continue in 2013, and we look forward to sharing these developments with you, along with some of the best theatre around.

The Coming Storm

After holding the UK premiere here in June, Forced Entertainment bring their highly successful show back to Battersea Arts Centre

In this new work international innovators Forced Entertainment tangle and cross-cut multiple stories to make a compelling and unstable performance. From love and death to sex and laundry, from shipwrecks to falling snow, personal anecdotes rub shoulders with imaginary movies, and half-remembered novels bump into distorted fairytales.

Award winning Clout Theatre invite you to dive head first into the absurd world of the Russian poet, iconoclast and false moustache wearer Daniil Kharms. Three bouffonesque characters intent on telling ‘The Old Woman’ story let narrative escape them as comic vignettes, metaphysical ponderings and bouts of senseless violenceprovide constant distraction. Expressionist silent film meets grotesque slapstick in a world where clocks have no hands and a cucumber can kill a man.

Sight is the Sense that Dying People Tend to Lose First is a long free-associating monologue that tumbles from topic to topic to create a vast, failing iteration and explanation of the world. Comical in its apparent naiveté and pre-posterously encyclopaedic in scope Sight is the Sense…, performed by Gatz leading actor Jim Fletcher, explores the absurdity and horror of consciousness as it tries and fails to seize and define everything that it encounters. Created by Tim Etchells, Artistic Director of Forced Entertainment and presented with Chelsea Theatre.

Date: 29 & 30 Nov Time: 8.30pm

Australian science-theatre ensemble Boho has joined forces with agency of play Coney to create a new interactive work based on the science of climate and social modelling.

Modelling Play invites the audience to take control of a complex system - a tropical island, a city block, a ski resort - as it faces a serious crisis. Combining the epic scope of tabletop boardgames with interactive performance and storytelling, Modelling Play asks why some systems collapse and others bounce back, why some communities hold together despite adversity while others turn on themselves, and how cooperation can emerge from the most unlikely places.

Inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s story this is a startling world of ruined beauty and magic reality where everyone dreams of their five minutes of fame and riches, and the extraordinary takes flight. In 2011, a Kneehigh creative team, led by Mike Shepherd, combined forces with the Little Angel’s founding family - Lyndie, Sarah and Joe Wright - to celebrate Little Angel’s 50th anniversary year with a beautiful, brave and always entertaining new show.
