Introduce the CraftSay God loved Moses. He planned for Moses to rescue God’s people from slavery in Egypt. Ask Who were some people God worked through to care for Moses and keep him safe? His mother, his sister, the princess. What did they do? Accept answers. God loves and cares for us too. How? Through family, teachers, church, etc. Say God especially showed His love for us by sending Jesus to be our Savior. Through Jesus, God delivers us from sin and eternal death. Moses’ basket was a little boat that kept him safe from death. God’s church is our boat. It is where God gives us His Word, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper to forgive our sins and give us life eternal.Say Today you will make a baby Moses diora-ma to remind you that just as God took care of Moses long ago, He takes care of you now.

Introduce the CraftSay When the church service starts, we light candles to show that we are in God’s pres-ence. Like Moses, who took off his shoes when God spoke to him, we are on holy ground. God talked to Moses from the bush.Ask How does God talk to us? Through Baptism, where He calls us by name and makes us His children; through His Word, the Bible. Say God made Moses fit for service in His kingdom. God makes you fit for service too. He takes away your sin. He gives you many ways to serve others. Ask What is something God has for you to do today? Lead students in a discussion on ways they serve God and their neighbor. You can also use the puppet you’ll make today to tell oth-ers about the Bible story and God’s love.

Do This ■ Cut along the lines to make the head and body of Moses.

Do not cut the parts that touch the fold. (See Get Ready.)

■ Draw Moses’ face.

■ Use markers or crayons to color the blanket. Put some blue wave lines along the bottom of the basket.

■ To make the diorama, lay the shoebox on its side.

■ Use crayons to color grass and sky on the back of shoe-box, or glue on strips of green construction paper for tall reeds and blue construction paper for the sky.

■ Draw birds flying in the sky.

■ Scatter small flower stickers on the green area.

■ Glue blue construction paper to the bottom of the box for the river.

■ Place baby Moses in his basket on the river.

■ Optional: Glue some small stones along the edge of the blue paper. Use a piece of material for Moses’ blanket. Glue pieces of raffia or yarn to the basket, or add strips of construction paper to the basket, using a basket weave.

Do This ■ Cut out the window and the slit in the front of the enve-

lope.

■ Seal the envelope.

■ Draw a burning bush on the inside of the window. Make a big bush with green leaves. Draw red, yellow, and orange flames coming from the bush, or glue pieces of colored tissue paper to it for flames.

■ Put the Bible verse under the window.

■ Cut out the figure of Moses.

■ Use markers or crayons to color Moses’ coat.

■ Glue the Moses figure to a craft stick.

■ Insert the Moses puppet through the slit by the burning bush. Use it to tell the Bible story to someone.
