Assignment title Knowing the potential effects of challenging behaviour and legislation.
As part of your BTEC course, you need to have an understanding of challenging behaviours and the legislation guidance which needed to be implemented in order to deal with it effectively. As part of your assessment, your tutor has asked you to initially keep a log of any challenging behaviours which you have encountered whilst on your placements. Furthermore, they have asked you to carry out some research at your placement to identify the various legislations and guidance in place.
Task 1aIn order to achieve P1, you will need to create a table style log in which you will record the various demonstrations of challenging behaviour and its triggers, using your own experiences on placements over the course of the last 2 academic years whilst on placement.
You will need to use the following behaviours: verbal abuse (i.e. racist comments, threats, bullying); non-verbal abuse (i.e. assault of others); self-destructive behaviours; behaviours destructive to the environment; behaviours destructive to other people; behaviour destructive to property; illegal behaviour; the impact of cultural variations.
You will need to also use the following triggers behind the behaviours listed above: intrinsic; extrinsic; temporary personal factors (i.e. discomfort, influence of alcohol/drugs); persistent personal factors (i.e. existence of a difficulty or disability that prevents normal communication, movement or behaviour); temporary environmental factors (i.e. hot’ crowded or noisy room); persistent environmental factors (i.e. poor quality of service).
This provides evidence for P1
Task 2In order to achieve P2, you will need to create powerpoints presentation on how legislation/ guidance apply to challenging behaviours. You will need to identify various legislations and guidance used within your placement and answer 3 questions for each of
the 5 pieces of legislation/ guidance selected.
You will be required to provide an overview of your chosen guidance’s and legislations prior to answering the questions.
This provides evidence for P2
Task 1bIn order to achieve M1, you will need to discuss in depth one type of challenging behaviour of your choice and the possible characteristics and causes. You will need to weigh up the variety of triggers using some of your log data for evidence discussing the points for and against the identified characteristics and triggers as justification for your chosen challenging behaviour. You will be expected to use a minimum of 4 triggers of your choice form the P1 task.
This provides evidence for M1
