B. V. DERYAGIN (on his 90th birthday) Highly esteemed Boris Vladimirovich! The Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, General and Technical Chemistry Branch, ,~nstitute ~f Physical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, editorial board and editorial staff of Izvestiya Akademii Nauk, Seriya Khimicheskaya congratulate you on your birthday. Your basic research in the physical chemistry of surface phenomena and colloid chemistry has become widely known and recognized in our country and abroad. Your theoretical and experimental studies of colloids, thin films, and boundary layers of liquids, adhesion and friction of solids, and the dynamics of aerosols have Ied to the establishment of the mechanisms that determine the kinetics and mechanism of physicochemical processes in disperse systems. You were awarded the USSR State Prize for 1991 for your cycle of research to create a theory of the stability of colloids and thin films. The pioneering research conducted under your direction on synthesis of diamond from the gas phase served as the basis for new technologies for creating superhard materials. You have devoted much effort and energy to training highly qualified scientific teams and to scientific organizatkmat and social work, including on the editorial boards of many domestic and foreign scientific journals, scientific boards on colloid chemistry and physicochemical mechanisms, and the use of aerosols in the national economy. Your endeavors have been internationally recognized by your election as a member of the Leopoldina International Academy of Natural Hist~rians, the International Academy of Creative Work, and an honorary doctorate from Clarkson College of Technology (USA). In our country, your service has been noted by many governmental awards and prizes from the Academy of Sciences. Dear Boris Vladimirovich, we wish you good health and many creative successes. Highly esteemed Boris Vladimirovich!

Your endeavors have been

internationally recognized by your election as a member of the Leopoldina International Academy of Natural Hist~rians, the International Academy of Creative Work, and an honorary doctorate from Clarkson College of Technology (USA). In our country, your service has been noted by many governmental awards and prizes from the Academy of Sciences.

Dear Boris Vladimirovich, we wish you good health and many creative successes.
