A steel-servicing company based in Pennsylvania purchased multiple off-road vehicle scales to send throughout the country. Scrap, steel and aggregate industries contributed to the most off-road vehicle scales B-TEK has produced since its inception.

Our new public scale combines variations of galvanized, concrete, and steel decks. We also show our yellow sight rail, along with a galvanized catwalk. This new scale is a great way to show customers all that B-TEK has to offer.

PaymentsThe DD 2050 relies on credit card processing to collect fees for weighments. Communication is securely transmitted over the web just like when you swipe your card at the store. The terminal communicates with payment gateways to validate the authenticity of a credit card. If details are validated, the terminalaccepts the card, and prints a ticket. However, no sensitive information is stored on the device.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW PRODUCTS FOR 2014

We would like to thank Kent Sneller for his 13 years of service and dedication to B-TEK Scales. Kent started with B-TEK in 2000. Kent’s territory stretched from West of the Mississippi until most recently working in the mid western states. Kent says he will miss the people the most. He has been doing this for the past 30 years and has made many good friends around the United States. He is afraid some of these people he has met along the way he may never see again and that is tough for him to deal with. He says, we (the distributors) have celebrated and gone through crisis together and that brings lots of feeling for each other.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RETIREMENT KENT!

Each year, B-TEK is called on to manufacture multiple off-road vehicle scales. What is exciting about these projects is it usually works out that no two of these scales are the same. We see all types of variations, from “beefed-up” standard models, to 24’ widths and even 1” thick deck plating. 2013 marked our largest year for the production of off road-vehicle scales, we shipped these not only throughout the entire U.S. but also

into Canada and Mexico as well. Our focus for this article will be an Off-road Vehicle Scale project we completed for a customer with locations in Reading, PA and also in Mobile, AL.

Customer StudyThe project we completed in Reading was relatively straight forward and did not require any unattended options. But when we learned of the application in Mobile, we quickly put our systems team to work on what was sure to be a project much beyond a weighbridge. What makes the Mobile project a bit different than others was our ability to integrate peripherals and software for the customer to be able to track every shipment and truck that came through the yard. As you will see from the following B-TEK was

able to come up with a solution that encompassed not only one of the heaviest digital weighbridges ever made, but also a fully automated system which ensured all product and drivers would be accounted for 24/7.

Scale Specs: 70’ x 16” Big Bertha Custom 30” Height 400k lb. Capacity – 150k CLC ½” Tread Plate Decking (8) CPD Digital Load Cells

Application: Customer has (5) of the same trucks, owned by them, coming through the yard every day. But up to (5) other trucks from outside vendors that will use the scale as well.

Request: Utilizing the (2) DD2050 terminals, we designed software with the customer that would ensure drivers a quick and easy way to record scrap coming and going from the scrap yard. The customer wanted all transaction data stored on their server for real time data access and reporting.

Our Response: As the truck pulls on the scale, the tag reader placed next to the scale will read the RFID windshield tag and identify the truck. The truck ID is shown on the main screen of the 2050 along with the weight. If the transaction is an empty/inbound weight, the data will be stored and the truck pulls off the scale. If the transaction is a full/outbound weight, the driver will be prompted for the scrap source and type. Once the outbound transaction is complete, all of this information is printed on a ticket and the information is sent back to the office via a wireless Ethernet bridge. When the information reaches the office it is then populated into an MS Excel spreadsheet for the customer to utilize how they would like.

** Note: Outside vendor trucks will not have RFID windshield tags, and will have to key in to the DD 2050 their truck ID.

Upcoming Trade Shows with Brett Kaufman

Each year B-TEK sets aside part of our marketing budget for trade shows and publications. We feel that being in front of end users is not only the best way to help supplement a dealer’s efforts but also that there is no substitute for face-to-face interaction with some of the largest corporations in America. This year is no different, we will be kicking our trade show season at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, KY on February 12-15, 2014. This exhibit is done in conjunction with Central Illinois Scale and we will be one of only three scale companies featured at this prestigious show.

Our next show will be the CONEXPO-CON/AGG Show in Las Vegas, NV, March 4-8 2014. The CONEXPO-CON/AGG is held once every three years and encompasses the World of Asphalt and AGG1 Shows as well. This is not only the biggest show that B-TEK exhibits at, it is the largest construction show in the world! In April we will shift our focus to Scrap Metal and again be in Vegas for the ISRI Show.

If anybody should need passes to any of the aforementioned shows, please contact your local B-TEK representative. We look forward to seeing you all there!
