What is Nasya Nasya is an ayurvedic detox therapy in which

medications in the form of oils , decoctions or powders are instilled through the nose.

As per ayurveda nasal route is the best way to reach the brain. Hence any disorders occurring in these regions can be tackled more appropriately by instillation of drugs through this route.

Procedure

Poorvakarma ( pre- procedure)

Before starting the actual therapy snehana and swedana is done over patient’s head , neck , face region. This helps in loosening of the accumulated toxins in this region which are then expelled out by the upcoming nasya therapy.

Pradhan karma

After the Poorvakarma the patient is asked to lie down in a bed with his hand and legs kept straight. His head is maintained at a lower position by keeping the pillow below the neck. Then the medicine is made to flow in to one nostril, while the other is kept closed. The same process is carried out in the other nostril also. For the administration of the drug a Cotton swab or a dropper can be used.

Paschat Karma ( Post- procedure)

After instillation of the medicine the shoulder, neck and face are gently massaged . Patient is asked to spit out all the impurities and medicine that reach his mouth. Swedana (sudation) should be repeated after the nasya treatment.

The process of nasya should be repeated for 7 days.

Medicines in nasya Anu taila – for headache , rhinitis, sinuisitis. Can also be

used as a preventive drug.

Shadbinu taila - used in premature graying of hair, hairfall, disorders of vision.

Milk- for bleeding conditions from nose and pitta disorders

Katpahala churna – for removal of accumulated mucus from sinuses.

Bramhi taila – used in improving memory, sleep disorders and other such.
