    AYACUCHO(Tourist Attractions)

    Ayacucho is famous for its 33 churches, which represent

    one for each year of Jesus's life. Ayacucho has large

    religious celebrations, especially during the Holy

    Week of Easter. These celebrations include horse

    racesfeaturing Peruvian Caballos de Paso and thetraditional running of the bulls, known locally as

    thejalatoroorpascuatoro. Thejalatorois similar tothe Spanish encierro, except that the bulls are led by

    horses of the Morochucos

    Its stone walls, intricately decorated, following theBaroque and Churrigueresque style, integrate perfectly

    the Andean landscape and the interiors look exquisite

    proud altars and pulpits worked in mahogany and gold

    leaf. This is also the capital of Peruvian handicrafts; small towns such as quinoa

    and Sarhua have spread their art around the world.

    After long years of crisis, which resulted later in a time of uncertainty and bloody

    violence, Ayacucho is once again a land of peace and hope, covered with a

    blue sky enhances its countryside populated by forests of molle,tare and cactus.

    A few minutes from the city is Quinua, a picturesque village of skilled craftsmenin the manufacturer of small churches and genre scenes in ceramics. Nearby is

    the place known as the pampas of Quinua, a spacious grassland where a huge

    monument is honoring the glorious scene of the Battle of Ayacucho (1824), in

    which the liberation forces under Marshal Antonio Jose de Sucre defeated the

    royalist troops, sealing the independence of America.

    Ayacucho was also the capital of

    the first empire of ancient Peru, the

    Wari, who were 500 years ago the

    Incas. Hidden among dense standsof prickly pear, you can still see the

    stone structures of up to three

    floors, vents and underground

    agreements that were part of

    extensive urban complex of this

    ancient town.

    An hour to the north of Huamanga is

    Huanta. Called "The orchard of the

    Andes" by the characteristic green of

    has always been a place of recreation and rest for the inhabitants of Ayacucho

    and Huancavelica. Located in a fertile and warm valley populated by willows

    and elders, has beautiful colonial mansions manor court. In Huanta are located

    the best typical restaurants (picanteras) of the department.

    If the beauty of the surroundings of Huamanga has not yet captured you, sure

    Vilcashuamn will do it. This was an important religious and administrative

    sanctuary Vicua National Reserve Pampa Galeras-Brbara d'Achille. It is

    located in the path Nasca-Abancay at an average altitude of 3800 meters over

    sea level. Instead the main attraction is the abundance of graceful vicua

    carefree graze on the plains of ichu on both sides of the road. This area, mostly

    belonging to the rural community of Lucan, was the scene of an intensive andefficient protection campaign in the decade of the sixties managed to save the

    species from extinction.
