118 patients prospectif sepsis abdominalNo deleterious impact of etomidate anesthesia on adrenal function tests and survival was observed in these patients Riché et al., Intens Care Medic 2007
60 enfants rétrospectif MéniongoccocieOur data imply that even one single bolus of etomidate negatively influences adrenal function for at least 24h. It might therefore increase risk of death Den Brincker et al., intens Care Medic 2008
A single bolus infusion of etomidate resulted in wide adrenal inhibition in critically ill patients. However, this alteration was reversible by 48h following the drug administration. The empirical use of steroid supplementation for 48h following a single dose of etomidate in ICU patients without septic shock should thus be considered.
