The diagram in page 4 shows the basic structure of the Avantis AX1 main board. It consists of 42 removable

terminal blocks, 4 on board connectors and 1 shunt jumpers on board. The removable terminal blocks are

useful for installers to do wiring before connecting it to the main board. The power supply is obtained from a

15VDC, 2.5A switch mode power supply adapter. There are auxiliary power supplies available in this

system. These auxiliary outputs provide power supply to the detectors and sensors. For communication, the

expanders and keypads are connected to the main board through 4 cores wire. The wires should be connected

to the terminal block namely, A, B, AP3, COM. The AP3 and COM provide power supply to the expanders

and keypad. In this system, there is an extra terminal blocks that also provide power supply to the expanders

and keypads namely AP2 and COM. This system also provides connections to strobe light, siren and bell.

The LINE is connected to the phone line. Meanwhile, the PHONE is connected to the telephone set. There

are 8 basic zones on the right bottom side of the main board.

For the connectors, there are 4 connectors altogether. Connector CN1 is for programming purposes. The 8

ways connector is used for voice module (labeled as CN2 on the board) and connector CN3 (8 ways

connector) is used for E2KEY. The 12 way connector (CN4) is reserved for future expansion. Finally, the

jumper RESET is used to reset the settings for the system. Below are the procedures to reset the system.

(i) Power off the system

(ii) To reset, short the jumper RESET pin 1&2.

(iii) Switch ON the power supply

(iv) The LED will be lightened permanently to indicate reset.

(v) Wait till the LED is OFF for approximately 5 seconds.

(vi) The reset jumper can now be taken away

(vii) The system is restored to default settings.

Caution

(i) Do not send telephone signals and alarm system signals by one multicore cable. This may results

in damage of the system in case of a high-voltage punch-through from the telephone line.

(ii) The main board should be installed in plastic box in closed rooms with normal humidity.

(iii) Switch off mains power supply and battery power when connecting keypads and other expanders

to the main board.

(iv) AC power line cable should not be pulled very close to alarm signal cable to avoid noise

interference that may cause instability in the system.

(v) Do not connect 230VAC directly into main board.

(vi) Wiring of this system should be done by professionally trained installer

INSTALLATION AND WIRING

Planning Installation

Representing the alarm activated zone. The system can support up to 32 zones.

Z = Zone Positive terminal

COM = Zone Negative terminal

Alarm can be triggered under three conditions:

(i) Normally Open (N.O.)

Alarm is triggered once a short is detected

(ii) Normally Close (N.C.)

Alarm is triggered once an open zone is detected, i.e. magnetic door sensors

(iii) End-of-Line (EOL)

Zone is either incorporated with a Normally Open or Normally Close Sensor.

Once there is no potential detected across EOL 2.2kΩ resistor, alarm will be triggered.

KEY SWITCH ZONE CIRCUIT

The system has one keyswitch zone. Keyswitch zone can be programmed to arm the system. Devices that are

usually connected to this zone are RF module controller and key switch.

This zone can be activated under four conditions:

(i) Latch (NO/ NC)

(ii) Momentary (NO/ NC)

TAMPER ZONE CIRCUIT

The system has one tamper zone. The tamper zone is used to protect the plastic casing from being tampered.

Device that is connected to this zone is the tamper switch.

This zone can be activated under two conditions:

KEYPAD ID SETTINGS

This security system can be connected up to four keypads via the four wire keypad data bus. Therefore, it is

necessary to assign addresses to each keypad. Each keypad has 3 jumpers to enable the ID setting. These

jumpers must be addressed correctly to enable the system to identify each installed keypad.

The 3 switches circled are used to set keypad ID.

Do NOT touch any other switches as they are for factory use only. (The correct position for the factory

setting switches is ALL UP as shown above). If they are not ALL UP, the keypad may not function.

To set the 4 keypad ID switches:

The system is able to communicate with CMS or user via telephone line. The system status (i.e. alarm

occurrence, alarm restore, unit status, etc.) will be reported to CMS or/and user. All reporting are subjected

to unit control settings. i.e. If the system is set to local system, no report will be generated.

Reporting Procedure

Four telephone numbers with individual account number for CMS can be programmed. The system will

dial the pre-programmed phone number if reporting are required. The account number is used in conjunction

with report code during reporting to CMS, and it is not applicable if the reporting is direct to user’s phone.

The reporting sequence will follow the receiver type and pattern programmed. Each of the 4 receivers

can be set to permanent or backup mode. If it is set to permanent mode, this means that this receiver have to

be reached. If this receiver is not reached, the system will attempt to call other receiver in the backup mode.

The reporting process will be repeated if the permanent receiver is not reached depending on the number of

tries programmed in the system. The reporting will be considered not reached if the receiver did not

acknowledge the system. If the system has been acknowledged by the receiver, the repeating process of

reporting will be halted. The redial attempt means the number of redial attempt to call the receiver after 30

minutes if the first round of dial attempt failed.

If the receivers did not acknowledge the system after maximum dial attempt, the external communication

error message will be set. It will be indicated through the trouble light in LCD keypad. The external

communication error will be cleared once the user clears the alarm memory.

Dial Type

During the reporting process, the panel can be configured to dial using DTMF tone dial or pulse dial.

However, for CMS, the system has to be configured to DTMF.

CMS Reporting Format : Ademco® Contact ID

The panel will communicate with the CMS through the following sequences:

a) Dial to CMS and waiting for reply. Fail to communicate in any manner (i.e. no dial tone, line busy, no

replay, etc.) will be considered as first attempt, to further proceed or not is subject to the procedure

described in Reporting Procedure.

b) The CMS should reply with handshake tone once the system is connected to the CMS station. The

handshake tone sequence shall consist of a burst of 1400Hz tone with duration of 100ms, a pause of

100ms and a burst of 2300Hz tone with duration of 100ms.

c) Once handshake tone is verified and accepted, the panel will start sending first message block (report)

using standard DTMF tones.

d) After data is received and processed by CMS station, it will acknowledge the system through a kissoff

tone and first reporting is completed. The frequency of the kissoff tone is 1400Hz and shall be send by

the CMS station for a minimum of 750ms and maximum duration of 1 second.

e) After the kissoff tone, the system will continue to send more reports (if any) to the CMS station. If there

is no more, the system will unseize the line to indicate end of reporting.
