As a part of Avon Lake’s Bicentennial 200th celebration and upcoming Bicentennial Beer Festival, we’re getting into the spirit, and “spirits”, by partnering with Railroad Brewing Company – Brewery & Taproom to bring you a program all about beer! Learn everything from the history of beer, an overview of craft brewing, and get a tour of Railroad Brewing Company brewery. Plus there’s a good chance of getting a sample or two of beer! This program is FREE, but registration is required.

Basic Homebrewing Wednesday, October 17, 6:30pm DiscoveryWorks Registration begins Wednesday, October 3.Do you love the taste of craft beer? Have you ever wanted to learn how to make your own? This one hour program is designed for beginner homebrewers. The basics of homebrewing will be covered, including: ingredients and equipment, a step by step look into the brewing process, how different beer styles are created, and more! Fall Family Story Times start the week of Monday, September 10 and end on Wednesday, December 5. There are no story times the week of November 19. Special Guest: Ohio State Senator Gayle Manning, who spent 37 years as an elementary teacher, will read to children at the 10:30 am session on September 24.

Meet a Wolf: Fact vs MythSunday, October 28, 1:30pmWe’re so excited to have Ironwood Wolves coming to present The Wolf: Fact vs Myth, that will include bringing one of their wolf ambassadors for all to see! This is a general informative presentation that talks about the wolf family life, habitat, diet, and basic myths and facts. Get to see a wolf up close, hear about these magical creatures, and learn about what makes them so special. This program is free!

Ghost Hunters Tuesday, October 30, 7pm-8pmParanormal investigators Chris, Amy, and Karlo have investigated over three hundred haunted locations around the country. As members of ORBS-Ohio Researchers for Banded Spirits, the team has been featured on the Animal Planet series “The Haunted” as well as the “My Ghost Stories” series on the Biography Channel. Come hear their stories, ask questions, and find out if ghosts are real!

Beach Glass Jewelry Classes! Tuesday, November 6, 10am–Noon Thursday, November 8, 6:30pm–8:30pmMcMahan RoomJoin beach glass collector and jewelry designer, Beth Lampe Martin, to create your very own beach glass monogrammed pendant. Students will learn how to file, dap, and stamp on a sterling silver disk, then add a small piece of beach glass and pearl to embellish the piece. A sterling necklace is also included. All supplies are provided, including tools and required materials. Each class is limited to 10 students, and registration is required. The materials fee is $30 for this program.

Wellness Wednesdays: Yoga Wednesdays, September 5, 12, 19, 26, 7pm-8:15pmMcMahan RoomJoin local yoga studio owner Marcia Camino, E.C.Y.T. M.F.A., B.A. for this four-part series. Marcia will introduce diverse styles of yoga, all of which can provide lasting health benefits. No yoga experience is necessary. Chairs and a limited number of mats will be provided. Cover Models Ghoul and City Council member, David Kos, is the inspiration for the annual BOO by the Woods event! His favorite spine tingling film is The Shining. Samantha Pasa, the creative genius behind each ALPL program guide, is channeling her inner princess and will be on-hand at BOO to greet lil’ haunters of all ages. Her horror movie favorite is Behind the Mask. Our sugar skull queen is none other than Nicole Haas, Recreation Program Manager for the City of Avon Lake. She has professed her love for the Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus. Lastly, our Ghostbuster, Jackson, is an Avon Lake resident and student with a panache for the creepy. His favorite seasonal movie is Halloween and enjoys reading the Goosebumps books.
