Pine Tree News

A Message from Mrs. Mize… Today, our fourth grade classes participated in the travels of the Bicen-tennial Torch through Indiana. We boarded buses and headed to the Avon Town Hall Park, where we were able to cheer Dr. Hoernemann as she carried the torch around the lake. The students received foam Bicentennial torches to wave as she passed by. We even got a group photo in front of the large “200” sculpture at the park. It was a wonderful morning and a very cool experience for the kids. Check out the pictures below! Tuesday is picture retake day. If you want your child’s picture retaken, please send the original package back to school Tuesday morning and the photographer will retake the photo. If you are new to Pine Tree and did not have your photo taken, an order form was sent home with your child today. If you have any questions, please call our school office at 317-544-6500.

College GO! Week

College GO! Week kicks off Monday, September 26!

College GO! is a statewide initiative that aims to help Hoosiers of all ages plan for education beyond high school. The long-term goal is to encourage students across the state to complete practical college-readiness activities, including creating a high school graduation plan, visiting college campuses and applying to college. Your child will be bringing home a LEARNMORE student magazine that has age appropriate college readiness activities and information. Please take a few minutes to look at the magazine with your child and talk about some of the activities. Here at Pine Tree, we are sharing college trivia on morning announcements and having a college spirit day on Friday, September 30. Students are encouraged to wear their favorite college t-shirt or sweatshirt on Friday the 30th. There will also be a College GO! display on the wall outside of the cafeteria so please check it out!

Introducing our 2016-2017 Pine Tree Student Council Members! These students meet on a regular basis to plan activities, assist with special events, and serve as student leaders for Pine Tree. We are looking forward to a great year!

It’s that time of year to start submitting your Box Tops and Tyson Labels! Last year we raised $2561 through corporate promotions like Box Tops. The funds we raise help go towards supplies, field trips, and parties at school. The best part is, it’s super easy! Just gather and send in your neatly clipped and non-expired labels, tops, and UPCs during the collection week listed above. Be sure to include the child and teacher’s name on the outside of the submission. Have family members and co-workers get involved too! If each student at Pine Tree submitted just 15 box tops per month for the 2016-17 school year, we could raise $4500! Imagine if each student submitted 20, 30, or 40 tops per month!!!! As a bonus, we will be keeping track of which class submits the most tops. The winning class will get to celebrate with do-nuts and milk!

News from the Pine Tree PTO

Walk-A-Thon October 5, 2016 Packets for Pine Tree’s Walk-A-Thon will be sent home this week. Details about registering online for pledges or how to send cash and check pledges to school will be included. Top fundraisers will be awarded various prize packages including Hot Skates Party Pack, Monster Mini Golf Prize Packs, and Chuck E Cheese Prize Packs. The top fundraising student will receive lunch from Subway with local fire-fighters. Volunteers are needed! Look for an email from your child’s teacher regarding volunteering on October 5th.
