The world premiere of AVENUE Q was presented by the Vineyard Theatre and The New Group, New York City, February 2003. AVENUE Q premiered on Broadway at the Golden Theater on July 31, 2003, produced by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.

robert loPez (Co-Author, Music & Lyrics)Robert Lopez shared a Tony Award and Grammy nomination for Avenue Q, the 20th longest running Broadway musical, which he co-wrote and conceived. More recently he collaborated with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker to write and compose the smash Broadway comedy The Book of Mormon. With his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez, he wrote Finding Nemo: The Musical (Playing in Orlando since 2006), the Broadway-bound original musical Up Here, and songs for Winnie the Pooh (Disney Feature Animation 2011). He shared two Emmy awards for his music for The Wonder Pets, and an emmy nomination for the Scrubs musical episode. Member BMI Workshop, Dramatists Guild, WGA, AEA, Yale grad, native NY’er.

JeFF mArx (Co-Author, Music & Lyrics)Jeff Marx met Robert Lopez at the the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. It was there that Avenue Q was born. Originally from Hollywood, FL, Jeff attended the workshop as a as a young lawyer, looking for clients, and ended up leaving law and becoming a songwriter. Forever grateful to the BMI Workshop, he has worked on such projects as NBC’s Scrubs and Disney’s Bear in the Big Blue House.

JeFF Whitty (Book)Jeff Whitty won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Avenue Q. Plays include The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler, The Hiding Place, The Plank Project, Suicide Weather, and Balls. Theaters presenting his work include the Atlantic Theater Company, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, South Coast Repertory, and the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Upcoming: Tales of the City: The Musical with music by Jake Shears and John Garden of the pop group Scissor Sisters, as well as Bring It On: The Musical with music by Tom Kitt, Amanda Green, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. lAUren cAlDWell (Director) Lauren is the Artistic Director of the Hippodrome Theatre. She began her career at the theatre as an actress appearing in such productions as Other Desert Cities, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Steel Magnolias, Sugar Bean Sisters, Marvin’s Room, Always Patsy Cline and eight years in A Tuna Christmas. She was the first woman in the country to be granted permission to appear in a professional production of A Tuna Christmas. Lauren’s mainstage directing credits (too numerous to list in their entirety) include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Master Class, The Diary of Anne Frank and The Glass Menagerie. In 2004, she adapted and

directed the world premiere of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds on the Hippodrome

Mainstage. Lauren has studied extensively with world-renowned director Anne Bogart, completing Viewpoints training, composition and also a six-week observership at Actor’s Theatre of Louisville. Before her position as the Artistic Director, Lauren was Director of Education at the Hippodrome. During her tenure in this position, she worked with the HITT program, the Summer Spectacular program and wrote and directed four original plays for the Theatre for Young Audiences program. These plays toured Alachua County as well as the State of Florida, serving thousands of public school students. Prior to her arrival in Gainesville, Lauren traveled extensively for Success Motivation Institute (an international communications company), lived a season in Graz, Austria with the American Institute of Musical Studies, and toured with Liza Minnelli. At the University of Florida’s School of Theatre and Dance, she has taught adjunct, conducted master classes and served as adjudicator for the school’s mainstage plays. Lauren is the founder and owner of Legal Acts, a company that provides training for courtroom attorneys. She has been affiliated with the University of Florida College of Law for over twenty years. Lauren has been recognized as Artist of the Year in The Gainesville Sun and was a keynote speaker for the Florida Humanities Council. Lauren was recently nominated for a Spirit of Gainesville Award by Gainesville Magazine, and named one of Gainesville’s Twenty Most Interesting People by INsite Magazine. She is a native Texan. Lauren holds a BFA in directing from Baylor University and an MFA in Acting from the University of Florida.

chArlie mitchell (Co-Director)Charlie earned his PhD from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a MA from Boston University, and a BFA from Ithaca College. Before becoming a professor of theatre at the University of Florida, he worked as a director and actor for a variety of theatres in New York, Chicago, and Baltimore, including three years as an artistic associate and company member in the award-winning Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. UF Productions: In the Blood, You Can’t Take It With You, The Grapes of Wrath, A Piece of My Heart, and Urinetown.

Jennifer is thrilled to join the Avenue Q team in her Hippodrome debut! She has performed at regional theatres across the country, including the Ivoryton Playhouse, Lake Dillon Theatre Company, Bristol Valley Theatre, Mount Washington Valley Theatre Company, Playhouse on Park, and others. In NYC, she most recently appeared in a play she co-wrote called, Hedda Gabler Stars in She Loves

JoSePh Vincent lonDon* (Brian) Joseph holds degrees in Voice from The Chicago College of Performing Arts, Manhattan School of Music, and The Juilliard Opera Center. He is thrilled to make his debut with the Hippodrome Theatre in Avenue Q this season. Broadway National Tours include Chicago (Mary Sunshine) and CATS (Old Deuteronomy). nichole hAmilton* (Stage Manager)

Nichole is thrilled to be a part of the Hippodrome family and to participate in its exciting 40th anniversary! Nichole stage managed Venus in Fur and A Christmas Carol (2010-2012) at the Hippodrome and has performed numerous roles onstage, most recently as Maid Marian in Robin Hood and Ellen in King o’ the Moon. As a stage manager, Nichole freelanced for numerous companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. Credits include 2005 San Francisco

World Music Festival (Dog Door Productions), 2004 Mariachi Festival (Mexican Heritage Plaza), Candide, Tosca, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Un Ballo (Festival Opera), Drive my Coche, Lady from Havana (Teatro Vision), and W;T, The Laramie Project, Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Bus Barn Stage Company). Nichole is an actor, director, theatre instructor and self-proclaimed comedienne. Nichole holds an MFA from the University of Florida and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.

mArilyn A. WAll (Costume Designer-in-Residence)Marilyn Wall is a co-founder of the Hippodrome, where she is Artistic Associate and Costume Designer-in-Residence. She has designed and built costumes for more than 350 professional

productions for the stage and for film. Her stage designs have been seen in San Diego, Boston, Denver, Connecticut, New York, Alabama, Massachusetts, and Toronto. In the film world she has designed costumes and makeup for: A Flash of Green, with Ed Harris; Shimmer, with MaryBeth Hurt; Ruby in Paradise, with Ashley Judd; Gathering Evidence, with Angelina Jolie; Miami Hustle, with Kathy Ireland; and Ulee’s Gold, with Peter Fonda and Patricia Richardson. Ms. Wall has also served as a designer for Phil Donahue, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Todd Field, Joan Steffend, Scott Simon, and Travis Tritt, and is a two-time Emmy Award winner for her design work on Salsa, a national television children’s series. She received an Audelco Award nomination for her original costume design for Cookin’ at the Cookery and a Beverly Hills/Hollywood Theatre Award nomination for Best Costume Design. She designed puppets and costumes for the children’s television series called OrganWise Guys. Marilyn was the invited artist for HGTV White House Christmas Special 2003-2005. Marilyn was awarded a Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in 2009.

robert P. robinS (Lighting Designer)Bob is a Lighting Designer and educator based in Gainesville, Florida. He is proud to be a part of the Hippodrome’s 40th anniversary season. Bob has designed lighting, engineered live sound mix and sound equipment design and installation, and stage managed over 400 productions with the Hipp, since their first collaboration, Revenge of the Space Pandas, in 1980. Prior to 2008, Bob held the title of Lighting Designer-in-Residence/Audio Production, a position he held for over 23 years. Bob also held the title of Rental Manager, wrote rental policy, procedures, and contracts; Safety Officer, wrote safety and emergency preparedness policy and programs and trained all employees in the area of safety and worker’s rights. Bob is an Adjunct Professor at Santa Fe College, teaching Stagecraft and working with the Fine Arts department as a Lighting Specialist. His recent teaching experience includes Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts at Middle Tennessee State University, Drury University, and Eastside High School. Bob’s work has been seen Off Broadway and regionally. He has designed lighting for over 600 hundred theatre, dance, industrial, and special events. Bob presents classes, training, and workshops for a wide variety of schools and organizations. He has certification as a Professional Educator in the state of Florida, is an Actors’ Equity Association Stage Manager, and proudly holds a BFA in Theatre Production from the University of Florida. Kent bArrett (Scenic Designer)Kent Barrett is thrilled to be teamed up again with Lauren Caldwell and the Hippodrome. Kent is a New York-based multidisciplinary designer and artist. He is an associate member with The Wooster Group and artistic associate with Rocky Mountain Rep. Kent has worked on Broadway, Off Broadway, regionally and internationally in a variety of capacities. Previous designs at the Hippodrome include: King o’ the Moon, Venus in Fur, Over the Taven, The Turn of the Screw, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Defiance, Around the World in 80 Days, Dracula, End Days, Serendib, The 39 Steps, Sirens, and The Marvelous Wonderettes.

michAel A. eADDy (Production Manager/Technical Director)This is Michael’s 13th season at the Hippodrome. Michael worked on 22 Mainstage productions as Master Carpenter, and since January 2002, as Technical Director/ Production Manager. Michael is also the Hippodrome’s Resident Photographer and has been promotional and archival photographer for more than 80 Mainstage productions. He is known in the area for

his fine woodworking as well as his award-winning photography. His work can be found in galleries in Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. riSA J. bAxter (Assistant Production Manager/Resident Sound Designer)Risa is excited to be in her 7th season with the Hippodrome. Her sound designs include Robin Hood, King O’ The Moon, Venus in Fur, Other Desert Cities, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Over the Tavern, Sirens, The Turn of the Screw, The 39 Steps, Serendib, End Days, This Wonderful Life, Dracula, Boeing Boeing, Around the World in 80 Days, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Mindgame, Up, Shipwrecked!, Eurydice, The Glass Menagerie, The Woman in Black, Suddenly Last Summer, The Dead Guy, Night of the Living Dead, Smell of the Kill, and Alice in Wonderland, and co-designs for Defiance, Doubt and The Pursuit of Happiness. Prior to her time at the Hippodrome, Risa worked in New York City on the Off-Broadway show People are Living There and on several shows with the award-winning Transport Group.

blU FogArty (Properties Design)Blu Fogarty is a Prop Master, and you’ll see his handiwork in all of the shows this season at the Hippodrome. Though he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in stage management, he’s performed in different shows at Universal Studios, been an entertainment technician at Disney World, choreographer, fighter, and trapeze artist at medieval fairs. He has also stage managed at Busch Gardens and the Orlando Shakespeare Theater. He hopes to some day tour his charity rock operetta, The Bacchanal Carnival, using the proceeds for the needs of the communities it travels through.

bryAn mercer (Musical Director)Bryan, a native of Ocala, returns to the HIPP after the success of The Marvelous Wonderettes, Trailer Park, College: The Musical, and SHOUT! He has been known to Atlanta audiences for over thirty years as an actor, singer, director, designer, painter, and served as puppeteer, composer, musician and musical director for 15 years at the internationally acclaimed CENTER FOR PUPPETRY ARTS. Bryan has helmed over 120 musicals and looks forward to a production of To Kill a Mockingbird using the music of Stevie Wonder this July, Hunger Games: The Concert, and “the Scottish play” this fall at Emory University. He has acted with Richard Widmark, Faye Dunaway and Neal Patrick Harris, danced with RuPaul, sung with Peter Ustinov and partied with Eartha Kitt. He hopes to complete his book soon about growing up in the Ocala National Forest entitled QUICKSAND.

DArrin PUFAll (Puppet Designer)Mr. Pufall proudly holds an MFA in Costume Design and Technology from The University of Florida School of Theatre and Dance and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Theatre/Costume Design for Boise State University. Recent and favorite theatrical productions include: Noises Off (The Idaho Shakespeare Festival); The Cherry Orchard, Gracie and the Atom, All My Sons, (Artists Repertory Theatre); The Gondoliers, Yeomen of the Guard, The Mikado, A Little Night Music, The Pirates of Penzance (Mock’s Crest Productions); James Joyce’s The Dead,

clinton thornton (Puppetry Coach)Clinton Wade Thornton is an Atlanta based theater professional with experience in many disciplines, including 14 years of artistic association (performance, directing, writing) with the Center for Puppetry Arts, internationally renown for it’s innovative work in puppetry. In addition to work at the Center, Clinton has portrayed the Monster in Jon Ludwig’s Frankenstein, produced at Theater Emory; he is also the recipient of a Suzi Bass Award (Atlanta’s professional theater awards) as Outstanding Director of a Musical for A Year with Frog and Toad, produced at Synchronicity, and has directed several professional productions in Atlanta and the Southeast, including productions at Theatre in the Square, Alliance Theater Acting Program, Theatrical Outfit, and Horizon Theatre. Upcoming projects in include directing Macbeth at Theater Emory.
