Aust Vet J Vol 77, No 11, November 1999 708 News O NE of the two plenaries of the Conference titled “Creed & Greed” will feature a debate on animal welfare versus economics, using a prominent personality as the host to two teams of up to six veterinarians in each. The second plenary is based on the conference theme “Vets beyond 2000”. On the social scene, the opening ceremony and “Welcome to WA” will take place in Observation City on the Sunday evening, 25th June. For the Tuesday evening dinner function, the Local Arrangements Committee selected two separate wineries as the venues. Sandalford and Houghtons wineries are very different establishments, Sandalford being a distinctly old and charming venue and Houghtons, a new development with just as much to offer, just in a different package. There is no doubt the ambience of both venues is sure to be enjoyed by all those attending the din- ner. The more formal Conference Dinner planned for the Thursday evening 29th June, is to be held in Rendezvous Observation City ballroom. Traveland Groups on Freecall 1300 656 556 will again offer a range of incentive travel options to Perth in June. These incentives and pre- and post-conference packages, will be advertised in future editions of the AVJ and in the Conference Handbook (due for distribution in March 2000). The preliminary brochure and first registration form for the Conference is included with this issue of the AVJ. At this stage 15 Special Interest Groups have nominated to hold sessions during the week-long Conference.
