Preparation:1. Optional: if adding drawer knobs, drill three holes along bottom board of the shelf frame.

2. Completely seal one of the inserts with Wood Seal-er; using the glaze wash brush. Allow to dry. Lightly sand, wipe off with a lint-free cloth. Lightly sand over any rough areas of the shelf, wipe off with a lint-free cloth. Basecoat the entire front and sides of the shelf with Vintage Chalky Paint; using the 2” angle. Apply two coats; allowing two hours drying time in between coats.

Basecoat backsides of shelf and insert with Everlast-ing Chalky Paint; using the 2” angle. Apply two coats; allowing two hours drying time in between coats. Op-tional – could paint another design on opposite side of insert, instead of basecoating with Everlasting.

Painting Instructions:Sky Area3. Basecoat the surface side of the insert with a Light Blue Mixture = (Blue Chiffon + shot of Wisteria); using the ¾” glaze wash brush. Using the gray graphite paper, a traced pattern and a stylus, transfer the horizon line to the surface. Use the graph ruler to aid in the transfer of any straight lines, by dragging the stylus along the ruler’s edge.Pre-dampen the sky area with clean water; using the 1” glaze wash brush. The surface should have an even sheen with no runs or puddles. Corner load the 1”an-gle with thinned Blue Harbor, lightly and randomly brush in areas over the sky area; Mop if necessary; barely touching the surface; like butterfl y kisses.Following the same steps, lightly and randomly apply thinned Golden Straw to the sky area; mop to soften. Then repeat steps with touches of Burnt Orange.

Land Areas #1 and #24. Pre-dampen the land areas with clean water; using the ¾” glaze wash brush. The surface should have an even sheen with no runs or puddles. Wash over with Antique Green; using the ¾” glaze wash brush. Allow to dry. Re-dampen, randomly wash over with Planta-tion Pine; to darken a few areas. Repeat step with Reindeer Moss Green for highlight.Land Area #35. Pre-dampen the land area with clean water; using

the ½” glaze wash brush. The surface should have an even sheen with no runs or puddles. Randomly wash over with Plantation Pine; using the ½” glaze wash brush. Allow to dry. Re-dampen, randomly wash over with Espresso; using the ½” glaze wash brush. Allow to dry. Re-dampen, using the med Tex-ture brush and Plantation Pine, dance in the rows of foliage. Randomly re-dance with Plantation Pine; to darken a few areas of foliage.For proper use of the Texture brush, use the fol-lowing method. Dampen the bristles with water to start the separation of bristles. Tap bristles into the paint on your palette, hold it perpendicular to your palette, pounce it up and down to get some of the paint off – keeping the paint sparse on the brush. Note – this brush can be used on the whole foot or just the toe.Tap lightly on the surface, dance with the brush up and down, rolling the brush in different directions in between your fi ngers when it is up in the air (like dancing the twist, light on your feet). Allow some drying time in between dances so the paint sets up and you don’t end up with a globby or muddy look.

Land Area #46. Pre-dampen the land area with clean water; using the ½” glaze wash brush. The surface should have an even sheen with no runs or puddles. Wash over with Espresso using the ½” glaze wash brush. Cor-ner load the angle with Espresso, randomly chisel fl oat* shades over the land area in the direction that the crops are growing. Allow to dry.*Chisel fl oat by corner loading the angle, blend off on your palette, lay the bristles of the brush fl at on the surface, chisel edge up. Push the paint on the bristles from left to right in a scratching motion, allowing the bristles to pull a broken line that is slightly fl oated.Transfer the line drawings for the pumpkins to the land area. Lightly pre-dampen the land area with clean water; using the 12 shader. With the sm Tex-ture brush and Antique Green, dance in the foliage rows. Randomly re-dance with Antique Green to darken a few areas of foliage.Basecoat the pumpkins with Tangelo Orange; using the 4 fi lbert. Corner load the angle with Russet, fl oat a shade across the bottom of each pumpkin; refer to photo for placement. With the 10/0 liner and Russet, pull section lines on each pumpkin. Using the 0 liner and Plantation Pine, pull stems on each

pumpkin; refer to photo for placement. Then with the 10/0 liner and Plantation Pine, pull tendrils on each pumpkin.

Transferring Structures7. Transfer all the structures to the surface. Use the graph ruler to aid in the transfer of any straight lines, by dragging the stylus along the ruler’s edge.

Background Shrubs Along Horizon8. Pre-dampen the area with clean water using the ½” glaze wash brush. The surface should have an even sheen with no runs or puddles. With the large Texture brush and Antique Green, dance in the shrubs along and up from the horizon; refer to photo for placement. Allow to dry.Pre-dampen the background Antique Green shrubs, load the large Texture brush with Plantation Pine, dance closer to the horizon over the Antique Green shrubs; to deepen. Allow to dry. Corner load the angle with Plantation Pine, fl oat shading across the top of the green land areas; along the horizon.The Autumn shrubs along the horizon are danced in different color combinations; using the med or lge Texture brushes; refer to photo for placement. Pre-dampen the green background shrubs, apply in these color combinations – Burnt Orange and Tangelo OrangeAntique Gold and Golden Straw

Background Shrubs9. With clean water pre-dampen the area to the left of the left barn setting. Load the toe of the med Texture brush with Tangelo Orange and the heel with Burnt Orange, dance in the shrubs. Allow to dry. Re-dampen the area with clean water, load the med Texture brush with Russet, dance shading in across the bottom of the shrub clusters to separate. Allow to dry. Re-dampen the area with clean water, load the med Texture brush with Golden Straw, lightly dance highlight across the top of the shrub clusters. Painting Structures 10. Use the appropriate size shaders to basecoat the structures. The appropriate size liners to pull wall and roof lines. Use the appropriate size shaders to wash over the shade side walls. Corner load the angle to fl oat shade on the opposite wall.

Barn Setting on the Left11. Tomato Red + Oxblood 1:2 mixture – basecoat walls Warm White – barn foundation, silo walls, left and right building wallsSlate Grey – barn roofsGraphite – silo roofsDetailing Walls and Roofs –Pre-dampen the silo walls with clean water, side load the 4 fi lbert with Warm White, the opposite side with Slate Grey, slightly brush blend on your palette, then randomly pull stone shapes on the walls.Brush blend Slate Grey + Warm White on the 2 shader, randomly pull bricks on the barn’s founda-tion. Double load the 10/0 liner with Slate Grey + Warm White, pull the wall lines on the two white buildings.With the 10/0 liner and Black Plum, pull the wall lines on both red barn walls. Randomly pull high-light wall lines with Burnt Orange. Using the 10/0 liner and Slate Grey, pull the roof and shingle lines.

Shading/Highlighting Walls –Wash over the left walls of both white buildings with Slate Grey; for shade. Corner load the angle with Slate Grey, fl oat shading across the top of the right walls of the white buildings.Wash over the left walls of the red barns with Black Plum; for shade. Corner load the angle with Black Plum, fl oat shading across the top of the right walls of the red barns.Corner load the angle with Slate Grey, fl oat shading down the left side of each silo wall. Then cor-ner load with Warm White, fl oat a highlight down the right side of each silo wall.

Shading/Highlighting Roofs –Corner load the angle with Graphite, fl oat shading across the top of each roof and second section of the small barn roof. Then corner load the angle with Warm White, fl oat a highlight along the bot-tom of each roof and roof section. Corner load the angle with Slate Grey, fl oat a highlight down the

right side of each silo roof.Double load the 0 liner with Slate Grey + Graphite, pull roof lines and side roof lines. With the 0 liner and Warm White, pull the roof trim lines. Use the 10/0 liner with Graphite, pull the lightning rods up from the silo roofs.

Windows and Doors –With the appropriate size shaders and Graphite, pull the windows. Using the 10/0 liner and appropri-ate color, outline the windows and pull the window panes –Warm White – red barn windowsSlate Grey – white building windows

The barn door on the foundation is based with To-mato Red + Oxblood 1:2 mixture using the 6 shader. With the 10/0 liner and Russet, pull the door handle.With the 0 liner and Slate Grey, pull the vertical lines for the two doors on the red walls of the barn. Wash over the two door areas with Burnt Orange for highlight. Corner load the angle with Black Plum, fl oat shading above and under the two doors.

Barn Setting on the Right12. Slate Grey – barn walls, roofsHoney Brown and Espresso – double load the 6 shader, base the silo wall with a blotchy effect

Detailing Walls and RoofsWash over the walls of the barn with a blotchy ef-fect using Warm White. Allow to dry. With Warm White and the Filbert Wisp, randomly pull lines on the walls. With Russet and the 0 shader, randomly pull bricks on the silo wall.

Shading and Highlighting Walls –Corner load the angle with Slate Grey, fl oat shading down the left sides of the middle and right walls. Then fl oat shading under each roof.Corner load the angle with Russet, fl oat shading down the right side of the silo wall. Then corner load the angle with Honey Brown, fl oat a highlight down the left side of the silo wall. Shading and Highlighting Roofs -Corner load the angle with Graphite, fl oat shading down the right side of the larger roof, left side of the smaller roof and down the right side of the silo roof. Then corner load the angle with Warm White, fl oat a

highlight down the left side of the larger roof, right side of the smaller roof and down the left side of the silo roof.Double load the 0 liner with Slate Grey and Graph-ite, pull the side roof line. With Warm White and the 0 liner, pull the roof trim lines. With Graphite and the 10/0 liner, pull the lightning rod up from the silo roof.

Windows –With the appropriate size shaders and Graphite, pull the windows. With the 10/0 liner and Slate Grey, outline the windows and pull the window panes.

Cornstalks13. With the 0 liner, pull the lines to form the corn-stalks in the following colors – Milk Chocolate, Espresso, Honey Brown, Golden Straw, & Antique Gold

Ground Foliage14. Corner load the angle with Plantation Pine, ran-domly chisel fl oat* shading under the barns, build-ings, corn stalks and the foreground area in front of the left barn setting.Pre-dampen the area under the cornstalks with clean water. With the 0 liner and Tangelo Orange, randomly dab under and around the cornstalks.Refer to photo for placement of Autumn ground foli-age. Pre-dampen the areas where Autumn ground foliage will be added with clean water. With the sm Texture brush and Plantation Pine, dance the base color for the Autumn foliage; allow to dry. Re-damp-en ground foliage areas with clean water, lightly and randomly dance the following colors – Russet, Burnt Orange, Tangelo Orange, Antique Gold, Gold-en StrawCorner load the angle with Plantation Pine, random-ly chisel fl oat* shading under the Autumn ground foliage.

Distressing Shelf15. To achieve the distressing areas over the shelf, randomly rub the white candle over areas of the shelf where you want the color below to show through. Note – the backside of the shelf is not distressed. Make sure you wipe away any loose wax with a clean, dry cloth before applying the top coat. Areas coated with the wax will allow the top coat to be easily removed.

Now basecoat over the shelf with Everlasting Chalky Paint; using the 2” angle brush. Allow to dry.Sand over the shelf areas where the candle was applied, allowing the bottom color to show through. Wipe off with a lint-free cloth.

Finishing:16. To protect fi nished painted pieces, varnish the entire shelf and insert with the DuraClear matte varnish; using the 1” Langnickel Combo brush. This brush doesn’t leave any visible brushstroke marks after the varnish has dried.

Finishing Touch:17. Glue the drawer knobs into place with the Glass, Metal & More Permanent Glue.

Pattern at 100%
