We want the way we price shows to reflect the dynamic personality of the studio, so what you pay depends on the demand for tickets as well as how early on you book.

• The first 30 tickets are £8

• The next 30 are £10

• The remaining seats, as well as those bought on the day of the show, are £12

• In addition to this, if you book for 3 different shows together you will pay the lowest rate of £8*

There are occasional exceptions where this pricing isn’t appropriate, but when this is the case we’ll make sure that it’s clear on the show page.

Children & Under 16sBecause we want you to see as much as possible together as a family without it being too expensive, all tickets for children’s shows are £6 – whatever your age. As well as this, under 16s get their tickets to all other shows for £6 too (age restrictions apply sometimes but we’ll tell you about these so you know what’s appropriate).

We hope we’ve made it as clear and simple as possible, but if you do have any questions feel free to give us a shout.

Ticket PricesLoveliness aside, it’s also a great place to see high quality small scale theatre productions. We pride ourselves on handpicking the shows that are performed in the Studio and see as much as we can before the season begins so we can tell you all about them in this brochure.

We hope you enjoy having a read about what’s coming up during the autumn and start picking out the stuff you’d like to come and see. As always, if there’s anything you’d like to know more about just give us a buzz. We’d also love to know what you think of the season so if you want to give us some feedback you can call Sarah on 029 2063 4673 or email [email protected]. Alternatively just let the Ticket Office know when you’re booking your tickets and they will feed back to us.

Hope to see you soon Team Weston Studio

For an intimate theatre space like the Weston Studio, the autumn and winter months are a time for it to really come into its own. It’s quite simply a lovely place to spend a few hours with friends on a cold and blustery evening down the Bay.

Gaza/Blaenannerch Eddie Ladd and Judith Roberts are both celebrated and established artists, hailing from different disciplines. As a theatre director Judith is best known for tackling the likes of Beckett and Miller, while Eddie, a highly physical performer, is renowned for her daring and political pieces.

Set against Philip Glass’s haunting String Quartet No. 5, Gaza/Blaenannerch considers the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a fresh perspective – that of another nation striving to find its identity: Wales. This is a compelling piece of bilingual dance theatre. Its strong, clear narrative frames a series of powerful dance pieces and the human body becomes both an expressive tool and a teaching aid.

Keep an eye on our website, as we will be uploading footage and images to give you a flavour of what to expect.

Supported by Arts Council of Wales.

Cold RollingThe starting points for Cold Rolling are the ghosts and remnants of Ebbw Vale’s rich industrial past. The piece was originally created as an intricate site-responsive piece in which Tanja Råman and 10 dancers from Ballet Cymru animated the various processes of steelmaking into vibrant choreography. For this staged version of the work, Ballet Cymru’s dancers create a lush sensual experience set to a beautifully composed score, originally performed by Ebbw Vale Choir.

TIRThe inspiration for TIR comes from Cerys Matthews’ iconic album of Welsh folk music of the same name. Choreographers Darius James and Amy Doughty have joined forces with Cerys, using 11 of the songs from the album to create unique work for their company dancers. Featuring Cerys’ dulcet tones this young, vital group of dancers will look to redefine the barriers of classical ballet.

Incubator Sharing Tickets: £6

If you are making a performance or know someone that is, this could be the opportunity you are looking for.

Incubator is a platform for artists and companies to develop new work in partnership with Wales Millennium Centre. The project is open for applications all-year-round from artists and companies with an idea that they would like to develop further. To find out more about how you can get involved and become one of the Incubator companies, email [email protected].

wmc.org.uk/incubator

We’ve been pulling together another playful programme of new work for you to experience.

It all starts by us giving selected Incubator Project applicants a space in which to be creative and to try out their new ideas, while offering the resource and support to allow the work to be developed to its fullest potential before sharing those ideas with an audience. Once all the companies have performed there’s the opportunity for you the audience to catch up with the artists informally to share your thoughts.Free post show talk // Age restriction: 16+wmc.org.uk/incubatorsharing

Hugh Hughes is from Wales. North Wales, Anglesey, Llangefni to be precise. In October 2007, his mother decided to leave his family home and Hugh returned to help her move and pack everything up. During his visit he was overwhelmed by the childhood memories that came flooding back to him.

Over the past few years, Hugh has been busy collecting up all the stories from his childhood and is now ready to tell you about his Stories from an Invisible Town, a wonderfully creative theatre performance.

Hugh is also keeping a record of his memories online at invisibletownstories.co.uk. He’d love you to visit and explore what he’s recalled so far.Age guide: 14+invisibletownstories.co.uk

Motherland

Inching its way through airbrushed beauty, boob jobs, Botox and victim-blaming, the might of motherhood and the challenges of childlessness, Motherland is a funny and moving show about having it all.

Spurred on by Simone de Beauvoir, Caitlin Moran and the Spice Girls, Vincent Dance Theatre’s brilliant, multi-talented ensemble of 11 men, women and children take a look at the gender they were born into and the price they are paying for it.

Blending dance, text and live music, Motherland is a call to arms: one that challenges the shallow hypocrisies and inequalities of our time and asks ‘what do we hope for now?’Age restriction: 15+ // motherland.org.uk // Free post show talk

“Innovative, delightful, exceptional!” The Independent

Enter Greg’s bedroom in Mesquite, Texas, 1998. Savage Garden is playing on repeat, there’s a pile of dirty laundry in the corner and he can’t stop thinking about Sara.

In this solo performance Greg revisits his days as an awkward teenager sharing his story of the night he took a chance. Written and performed by Greg, he uses a mini projector to throw hand-drawn memories onto the walls, floor and ceiling. Greg takes the opportunity to have a conversation with a past version of himself; something we’re sure many people would love to do…I like the way you wear your hair is supported by BAC, The Basement and Camden People’s Theatre.

In Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, Shylock’s character was penned as a comic villain, a character to be mocked and scorned. However in the depths of his despair it begs the question was he a victim of racial discrimination or just plain bad?

Poignant and humorous, Gareth Armstrong’s Shylock is rightly one of the world’s most successful solo shows. In collaboration with fellow Welshman Guy Masterson, perhaps the world’s leading exponent of the form, he beautifully honours one of Shakespeare’s finest creations from one of his greatest plays. With an enigmatic award winning performance the piece celebrates the beauty of language, the power of history and the magic of theatre.Age guide: 12+ // theatretoursinternational.com
