SAN MARCOS ESTATES WWW.MYSANMARCOS.ORG AUTUMN 2016 Beautification The Pecos entrance will soon have a fresh look. Desert Landscape Professionals is getting ready to add some colorful plants to each side of the entrance. They will also completely replant the medial strip with ornamental shrubs. The mild temperatures of the fall season are ideal for planting shrubs and trees and giving them the best start. We hope the renovated landscaping will say “Welcome home” each time you enter our neighborhood. We have issued contracts to Tree Doctors, who will be trimming a number of the large Eucalyptus trees in December. Also, DLP will be trimming all the Frye Rd trees and a few selected trees on Pecos Rd before the end of the year. And, as usual, all the Evergreen St. Elm trees will be trimmed soon after the 1 st of next year. Painting You may have noticed that we had all of the walls facing Hartford painted last month, as well as a few sections of interior walls that were stained, peeling, or cracked. We will continue painting select areas of walls each year as the need for regular maintenance continues. Painting expenses are paid for from our Reserve Account, which is in excellent shape. October Community Yard Sale Our HOA had another very successful community sale on October 22.    At last count, almost 30 homes participated, and some went "all out".  Here's a sampling of the most ambitious sales.  Hopefully, you all have an opportunity to rest up before the next event.

Gophers

If you ever walk on the sidewalks along Pecos Rd, you probably noticed numerous mounds and holes in the dirt. We have had an infestation of highly active, brave gophers that were living along our irrigation lines. After much research, the board chose an exterminator that uses a carbon monoxide generator to force the gas into the active holes and tunnels. This is the most humane treatment available, and, after two treatments, seems to have rid us of the pests that have killed some bushes and spread dirt all over our granite. Once we’re sure we’ve eliminated them, DLP will be planting replacement bushes along Pecos. Please notify Elan Management if you see any gopher mounds or holes along Pecos so we may get after them before they multiply.
