First Enterprise-Level Facial Recognition Matching Platform! The ABIS™ System eases the delivery of identifi cation solutions for government, law enforcement and commercial users with millions of records to manage.

Use the ABIS System for eliminating ID fraud and duplicates:

• Passports• Visas• Driver Licenses• Entitlement Cards• Employee IDs• Voter Registrations• Mugshot Systems

How it Works: Face RecognitionIdentix’ superior facial recognition engine, FaceIt®, uses Local Feature Analysis (LFA) to represent facial images in terms of local statistically derived building blocks. LFA is a mathematical technique based on the realization that all facial images (for that matter all complex patterns) can be synthesized from an irreducible set of building elements. Using LFA, FaceIt maps an individual’s identity into a complex mathematical formula - called a faceprint - that can be matched and compared to others with phenomenal accuracy. It is resistant to changes in lighting, skin tone, eyeglasses, facial expression and hair, and is robust with respect to pose variations, up to 35 degrees in all directions. The ABIS System integrates FaceIt technology in a plug and play architecture, facilitating the delivery of large scale ID solutions.

The ABIS™ System, is the industry’s fi rst enterprise level facial recognition matching platform, designed to solve the problem of large-scale facial image database search.

Similar in architecture to many fi ngerprint AFIS systems but using commercial off-the-shelf hardware, the ABIS System packages Identix’ leading edge FaceIt® face recognition technology in a unique software architecture that provides open-ended scalability, risk management through confi guration redundancy and fl exibility with regards to the number of concurrent searches and required response time. The ABIS System is available as a turnkey package or as a software only implementation for smaller databases or low-throughput environments.

FACE RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY

Architecture and Components The ABIS System architecture is made up of the following three server components:

Database Server: Oracle 9i Database stores biometric and demographic data

Application Server: Easy to use tools for ABIS System operations and for integration of ABIS system calls into business applications.

FaceIt: Top Performer in FRVT 2002Performance as a function of gallery size.

FRVT 2002, administered in July and August of 2002, was co-sponsored by the Counterdrug Technology Development Program Office, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NAVSEA). FRVT 2002 was designed to assess and differentiate the capabilities of the various commercially available facial recognition technologies to meet large-scale, real world applications. FaceIt was a top performer in every test. Note that results shown from the Facial Recognition Vendor Test 2002 do not constitute endorsement of any particular system by the Government. The full report and appendices including vendors’ responses, may be accessed at www.frvt.org/FRVT2002.

Delivers Accurate Results–Quickly!

The ABIS System is powered by Identix’ FaceIt technology, repeatedly shown to be the leading facial recognition technology on the market in independent government

evaluations. Validated for large-scale identification programs, FaceIt is widely deployed among governments and corporations across the globe and is the underlying technology for dozens of high-profile facial recognition deployments including: Colorado Department of Revenue, Mexican Federal Election Institute, Serbia Ministry of Interior, Belgian National Police and many others.

Easy to ImplementThe ABIS System provides all the necessary platform components of a 1:N facial matching solution such as: a database for storing templates (Oracle 9i Database); a search architecture that handles a single search on multiple parallel matching engines; multiple parallel search sets for partitioning searchable data and managing response time requirements; as well as out-of-the-box redundancy for continuous operations.

Integrators create a user interface using a simple application programming interface (API) – based on open standard protocols like XML, SQL and HTTP – that provides basic enroll, search and delete functions. Then all that is needed is to simply load the database and plug in the Biometric Appliance components!

As the system grows, there is no need to reconfigure or reinstall a new architecture. Simply add more Biometric Appliances to expand the database size, increase search speed or the number of simultaneous searches. The ABIS System also works with legacy facial image databases, making it easy and seamless to add facial recognition to any ID system.

ABIS System Advantages• Speed and throughput scales

to meet user requirements

• Provides built-in risk management through configuration redundancy

• Utilizes industry-leading FaceIt technology

• Integrates with legacy databases and customer applications

• Allows search submissions to be sent through web browsers

• Built on open standards – XML, SQL, HTTP, etc.

• Uses commercial off-the-shelf hardware

BioCreate Sample Search Core Server Configuration

Easy to Configure At the core of the ABIS System is a unique software architecture that uses Biometric Appliances (BAs), making it easy for integrators and end users alike to expand the capabilities of the system as the scope of the identification program grows. Adding more of these components allows users to expand the database size, increase search speed or the number of simultaneous searches without reinstalling a new architecture.

ABIS system configurations are dependent on the required search rate response time and database size. This sample configuration can handle 500 searches per hour with a 15 second response time on a 2 million image database. The search core hardware is a single rack-mounted server box.

Search Core Server: Made up of Biometric Appliances (BAs) that collectively provide the biometric matching function:

• BioCreate BA: Generates biometric templates

• BioMatcher BA: Conducts biometric comparisons between a request template and the database

Technical SpecificationsThe ABIS System is available as a turnkey package (ABIS Face Enterprise Edition) or as a software only implementation (ABIS Face Single Server Edition) for smaller databases or low-throughput environments.

ABIS Face Enterprise Edition The ABIS System components are operated on a distributed hardware architecture, providing advantages of scalability and redundancy:

Search Core Server ABIS System search engine firmware. Typically operates on

Intel® Xeon™ or Pentium® III blade servers.

Database Server Oracle 9i Database on Windows 2000 Server. Typically operates on dual Intel Xeon Processors, depending on search rate and database size required.

Application Server ABIS XML-RPC Application Programming Interface software on Windows 2000 Server. Typically operates on dual Intel Xeon Processors, depending on search rate required.

ABIS Face Single Server Edition

The three ABIS System components – Search Core Server, Database Server and Application Server – all operate on a single hardware system:

Computer Typically a dual or quad Intel® Xeon™ Processor system, 2-4GB RAM, operating Windows 2000 Server.

Database Oracle 9i Database, with 100-200GB available disk space, if retaining original images (this is optional).

Capacity Up to 500,000 images, each averaging 100 KB compressed size or less.

Implementing an ABIS SystemTo configure an ABIS system, information pertaining to initial loading, storage, throughput and redundancy requirements must be provided. Through its first-class Professional Services organization, Identix can help to integrate the ABIS System into an existing or new business specific application. Installation and training provided as well.
