PDFEnhancementsPDFfilesarethemostcommonfileformatusedwhenexchangingdesigninformationbetweendesigners,

contractors,clients,etal.InAutoCAD2017,AutoCADincludedtheabilitytoimportPDFfiles.ThePDFIMPORT

commandimportsPDFdataintoAutoCADas2Dgeometry,TrueTypetext,andimages.

SHXTextRecognition

OneshortcomingofPDFIMPORTisthatAdobe’sPDFfileformatdoesn’trecognizeSHXfonts.When

plottingtoPDF,textdefinedwithSHXfontsiswrittenoutandstoredinthePDFaswireframegeometry,

therefore,thetextisalsobroughtinaswireframegeometryduringimport.

TheAutoCAD2017UpdateoffersaSHXtextrecognitiontoolthatenablesyoutoselectimportedPDF

wireframegeometryrepresentingSHXtextandconvertittotextobjects.Accessthisfunctionalityfrom

theRecognizeSHXTexttool(PDFSHXTEXTcommand)ontheInsertribbontab.

TheSHXrecognitiontoolanalyzesclustersofgeometry(e.g.lines,polylines,etc.)fromyourselectionset

andcomparesthemtocharactersinspecifiedSHXcachefiles.

ASettingsoptionisavailabletohelpyoumanagewhichSHXfontstocompareagainsttheselectedtext,

aswellascontrolsomesettingsduringtheconversion.ThemostcommonSHXfontsarelistedby

default.YoucanaddorremoveSHXfontsbasedonyourneedsandthenselectwhichfontsinthelist

youwanttocompareagainsttheselectedtext.

AftercomparingthegeometrytotheSHXfonts,thegeometrythatmatchesisautomaticallyreplaced

withoneormoremtextobjects.Amessageboxdisplaystheresults.

TexttoMtextEnhancements

TheConverttoMtextexpresstoolenablesyoutocombinemanyindividualtextobjectsintoonemulti-line

textobject.ThiscanbeparticularlyusefulafterrecognizingandconvertingSHXtextfromanimportedPDF

file.YoucanaccesstheConverttoMtexttool(TXT2MTXTcommand)fromtheExpressToolsribbontabor

fromtheCombineTexttoolontheInsertribbontabnexttotheRecognizeSHXTexttool.

ThefollowingareenhancementstotheTXT2MTXTexpresstool:

• YoucanselectMtextobjectsinadditiontotextobjects.

• ASettingsoptionontheCommandlinedisplaystheTexttoMTextSettingsdialog.

• CharactercodestranslatecorrectlybetweenTextandMtext(forexamplethedegreesymbolappearedas

%%dwhenconvertedtoMtext).

• The“Selectobjects”promptadherestostandarderrorcheckingandmessaging.Forexample,objectson

lockedlayersarefilteredfromtheselectionset,andsoon.

• Justification(Topleft,Topcenter,Topright)isinferredfortheMtextobjectbeingcreatedbasedonthe

positioningofthetextobjectsinthedrawinginsteadofalwaysusingTopleftjustification.Whenno

justificationcanbelogicallyinferred,itdefaultstotop-left.

• Numberedandletteredlistformattingisinferredwhentheword-wraptextboxischecked.Ifalinestarts

withoneortwocharactersfollowedbyaperiodandupto10spaces,listformattingwillbeapplied

automatically.

• AnoptionwasaddedtotheSettingsdialogboxtonotcombineselectionintoasinglemtextobjects

(convertstextobjecttomtextwithoutcombining).

• Thetop-downsortingorderisrelativetothecurrentUCSandsortingisleft-to-rightwhentextobjectsare

collinear.Whenmultipletextobjectsarecollinear,theyaretreatedasifonthesamelinewithaspace

betweenthem.

• AnewSettingsoptionenablesyoutoforceuniformline

spacingormaintainexistinglinespacing.

LinetypeGapSelectionEnhancementsLinetypegapbehaviorisenhancedtosupportcomplexandDGNlinetypes.Inaddition,thisfeature

workswithallobjects,suchaspolylineswithwidthandsplines.NowyoucanselectcomplexandDGN

linetypesorsnaptothembypickingonthegapsbetweenthegeometry.

HighResolution(4K)MonitorSupportTheAutoCAD2017Updatesupportshigherdisplayresolutionsandpixeldensitiestoensurethebest

possibleviewingexperienceevenon4Kdisplaysandhigher.Commonlyuseduserinterfaceelements,

suchastheCommandLine,LayerManager,ViewCube,PickBox,andGripsareappropriatelyscaledand

displayedaspertheWindowssetting.
