The Charminar, built in 1591 CE, is a monument and mosque located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana), India. As a global icon of Hyderabad, it is one of the most recognised structures of India. The English name is a transliteration and combination of the Urdu words Char and Minar, translating to “Four Towers”. The grand arches face the four main compass points, with four wide roads going in each direction.
