Position Overview
This role is based in the Pilbara region of Western Australia at our Yandi Iron Ore operations. The role is fly in, fly out, from Perth airport, on a 5 days on; 2 days off; 4 days on; 3 days off roster. (Although flexible work arrangements may be possible depending on the role. For example 3 or 4 days on site.)
Reporting to the Superintendent Fixed Plant Maintenance Execution, you will complete a rotation-style internship across FPM sub-departments (Maintenance Execution, Analysis & Improvement, Maintenance Planning, and Infrastructure & Services).
Throughout this internship your focus will be on enhancing fixed plant equipment reliability and availability. You will also review and improve operating and maintenance procedures, thereby actively contributing to achieving long-term, measurable improvements in performance and efficiency.
This role is based in the Pilbara region of Western Australia at either our Mining Area C, or Yandi Iron Ore operations. The role is fly in, fly out, from Perth airport, on a 5 days on; 2 days off; 4 days on; 3 days off roster. (Although flexible work arrangements may be possible depending on the role. For example 3 or 4 days on site.)
Our FIFO village includes; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, netted cricket pitch, beach volleyball court and recreation room. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, internet, refrigerator and air-conditioning.

Task and Responsibilities
Review and amend maintenance strategies, ensuring they comply with current government legislation, Australian Standards and BHPBIO Standards.
Carry out workplace inspections.
Develop an understanding of Root-Cause Analysis, and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis.
Analyze historic data for fixed plant assets and have active involvement in the defect elimination process.
Devise and execute improvement initiatives to address identified issues.
Skills Required
Good Analytical and problem solving skills
Industry experience in manufacturing or mining is desirable but not mandatory
Solid written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in MS Office Suite
Full Drivers License
Degree/Discipline
Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering.

Second last or final year of an Australian university undergraduate or postgraduate degree
Australian citizens, Permanent Residents, and International Students.

BHP’s FIFO opportunity provide exposure to corporate mentality, governance, admin, combined with real life mining work experience.
FIFO from where? How often?
Weekly fly in and fly out from Perth airport to regional Western Australia – Pilbara region.
Perth airport arrival at commencement of week for 6am departure Airbus A320 to site (charter plane). Airstrip at Pilbara is not wheelchair accessible. Once arrived at airstrip, bus ride to site (20 minutes). Bus requires stair access. Bus daily back to camp. End week, fly to Perth airport, arrive approx. 6.30/7pm.
Work Hours?
The standard working day on site is 12 hours – 6am – 6pm. However, BHP hiring managers are open to discussing flexibility in these work arrangements.
They work on a two-week rotation:
Week 1 – Monday – Thursday (Friday, Saturday and Sunday off)
Week 2 – Monday – Friday (Saturday and Sunday off)
FIFO and Workplace adjustments?
BHP are open to implementing workplace adjustments around the working day and hours.
What are the Safety/ Emergency Procedures?
BHP have onsite paramedics (similar to St John level) available at all times. They also have the airstrip which allows access for the Royal Flying Doctors.
BHP also own their own Medivac Chopper which is available at all times. Maximum flying time to a hospital is approx. 30 – 35 minutes.
BHP are very aware of the potential psychological impact on individuals. They provide a very supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to share when they need to talk / support. Flexibility can be implemented if this will assist. Gym facilities are provided on camp.
What is the accessibility around accommodation / amenities?
Accessible rooms and bathrooms are available.
Other rooms have one step to enter.
All footpaths are accessible – all aspects of camp accessible via footpath.
Accessible gym available at site.
Is there a support / buddy structure?
Yes, and there are also other interns onsite / in camp at the same time.
There is very little time to spend on your own – flexible options if people need more time.

Weekly.
Perth to Pilbara region. Onsite in Camp (20 minutes from site and via bus) during week.
Trip from camp to site – twice daily via bus (standard greyhound) (approx. 20 minutes).
