SWAPSEA This season, we're encouraging the

use of SWAPSEA, the Online Rostering

Management system. If you haven't

activated your account yet, head

over to swapsea.com.au and enter the email you gave the

club on your membership form to activate your account.

SWAPSEA is a great system that gives you info about your

upcoming patrols, patrol hours, any expiring awards etc. Most

importantly, it allows you to easily organise swaps/substitutes

for any patrols you can't make—definitely a great tool to

utilise.

BLUE CARDS PLEASE CHECK YOUR BLUE CARD AND MAKE SURE IT HASN’T

EXPIRED. IF IT HAS OR IS CLOSE TO EXPIRING YOU NEED TO

RENEW ASAP. See Tiarne or Caroline.

INTERNATIONAL SURF LIFE SAVING ASSOCIATION ISLA (International Surf Life Saving Association) is a Volunteer

Social Justice organisation promoting lifesaving particularly in

developing countries. Drowning is the third highest form of

non-disease cause of death worldwide. Albania, Turkey,

Greece, Ghana, Indonesia, Thailand Chile, Nicaragua,

Mexico have all benefited from ISLA programs. China and Iran

will be two new countries in 2018.

In December this year several BMD Northcliffe members will

be part of the next Indonesian Training Team. We pay our

own way, stay in adequate accommodation, make friends

with other lifesavers/lifeguards particularly Americans and the

locals and experience the country as few tourists ever can.

If you want a great life experience and greater understanding

of the importance of lifesaving follow ISLA on FACEBOOK or

the web: https://www.islasurf.org/

BOATIEs corner

We welcome a couple of new members to the boat crew

ranks this month. Sarah Jane, Liam, Jordon and one of young

juniors from a couple of years ago – Chandler Walker has

returned. The Gold Coast Squads are coming together

nicely as is the Brisbane crews. Damian, our A grade sweep,

looks to field a Reserve, Junior and Ladies Crew out of

Brisbane, and we have gained some great young rowers

from Corrimal and Mona Vale - so all going well. We have

two Australian Titles to defend!!

There are also a couple of other Club members who are ex

gun rowers from a local Gold Coast school who will surprise

us this year - we are looking forward to them starting with us

soon. Our aim is to nurture the young rowing members,

utilising our master’s rowers to cement our boat rowing

culture for the Club. Lifesaving development and

engagement are at our core – having fun and representing

the club are also part of our values. Our masters are nipper

parents who have made the transition to competition as well

as patrolling our beach - and have their kids in the junior

club.

To that end, we are really happy to have Stuart

Traill (Harry Hi Pants) from Ellis Beach reconstitute

himself as a bronze medallion holder so that

Stuart can restart the process of having his

previous awards updated. I recently assessed a

bronze crew trained by our club trainers and we

cannot praise their efforts enough – Stuart was

on this course to update his bronze medallion.

We continue to receive constructive

feedback (sort of) from our very senior

“pod” members who religiously swim

at the club every morning – pictured

right analysing and discussing our

rowing styles - We’d be lost without

them!!!

Training is every Sunday morning at

the moment from the club for all boat

crews, commencing 6:00am -

everyone is invited.

Masters are lookin’ good!!!
