New South Wales Golf Club(Australian Ranking 5)"La Perouse", as the course is often known, is set amongst scrub covered sand hills and valleys that slope down to the Pacific Ocean at secluded Cruwee Bay. This inspiring layout is bounded by water on three sides and has many of the characteristics of true links golf. Occasionally benign and at the mercy of the "young guns", this sleeping giant, with its undulating fairways and small greens, calls for great skill in shot making when the sea breezes blow. It has been written that golf had its origins on unique seascapes similar to this one, where the wind is a dominating factor and the direction from which it blows making any of the eighteen holes comparatively easy or extremely difficult.

Golf Clubs & Course Overview

Royal Melbourne Golf Club(Australian Ranking 1 West course and 8 East course) Royal Melbourne's two courses, the East Course and the West Course, are each ranked amongst the best in the world. Royal Melbourne has hosted numerous national and international events, most famously the 1959 Canada Cup, and the 1970 World Cup. It was selected by the PGA Tour to hold the Presidents Cup for the first time outside the United States in December 1998. The Club will also host the Presidents Cup in 2011.

Kingston Heath Golf Club(Australian Ranking 2) Kingston Heath Golf Club is not only one of Australia's, but also one of the world's leading golf clubs. The 18 holes were built on only 50 hectares (most courses in the modern era are built on over 100 hectares), it is perfectly manicured and its bunkering and clever use of dips and hollows visually fools the non observant golfer. If you wildly deviate from the fairway, the rough (comprising long grass, ti- tree and sandy scrapes) will test your ability to get the ball back into play.

Golf Clubs & Course Overview

The Victoria Golf Club(Australian Ranking 9) The Victoria Golf Club is acclaimed by golfers the world over for its fine hospitality and superb world championship course. Situated in the heart of Melbourne's rolling sandbelt country, in the beach side suburb of Cheltenham, it offers a sporting experience on par with the worlds best. The beautifully landscaped par 72 course is designed to challenge both the amateur and professional golfer.

The NationalThe National Golf Club is a 54 hole private members' golf club, providing three distinct golfing challenges (Old Course, Moonah Course and Ocean Course). The three courses have been designed by 3 of the world's leading golf architects - Greg Norman, Robert Trent Jones Jnr and Peter Thomson. As such the 3 courses, although located very closely to one another, offer the golfer a range of golfing experiences.

Barnbougle Dunes(Australian Ranking 4) Golfing at Barnbougle Dunes is an unforgettable outdoors experience. The crashing surf of Bass Strait is visible from most holes, and audible from all. Few golf courses can boast such a variety of surrounding water bodies. Barnbougle Dunes is flanked by Bass Strait, the Trent tidal estuary, freshwater tea-tree wetlands, and the Forester River, having meandered its way down from the distant peaks of Mt Maurice.

Page 10: Australian 15 day East Coast

Hamilton Island Golf ClubDesigned by champion golfer, Peter Thomson, the par 71 championship Hamilton Island Golf Club on neighbouring Dent Island measures 6,120 metres (6692 yards). The only championship island golf course in Australia, the course has been designed to challenge all levels of golf enthusiasts, from resort guests to professional golfers.Given the changes in course elevation; restricted landing areas and the ever-present breezes will provide a definite challenge from the back tees and enjoyable resort golf from the forward marks.

Barnbougle Lost Farm(Australian Ranking 6) The Lost Farm commences on some level terrain to reach the coast, so the first couple of holes build the anticipation as the dunes loom ahead. By the time we reached the 3rd, the assault commenced. A short par-4 with a small, tiered green sheltered in a dune. It appears innocuous from the tee, but the challenge is all at the green. This hole was a fearsome introduction to a stretch of holes played in and through some remarkable dunes in the links land. The 4th is a striking par-3 perched on top of the dunes overlooking a stretch of beach on Anderson Bay and looking back across the estuary towards Barnbougle Dunes. The 5th is one of the most intimidating holes on the course with a drive required to take on the corner of a huge dune on the right to have any chance of reaching the massively undulating green on this 400-metre par-4. The long, uphill 16th is a magnificent par three and one of the real feature holes of the course.
