Austin Mortgage – Creative Ways to Display Artwork in Your Home

When it comes to home decorating, your style and personality are key. The way in which you choose to decorate your home says a lot about your unique taste and individuality. Therefore, the artwork you choose to display in your home as well as the way in which you display it can also make a bold statement. If decorat-ing is something that doesn’t come easy to you, do not fear. Our Austin Mortgage experts’ tips on how to make a statement with artwork in your home will make the overwhelming task of interior decorating quite simple.

Tip #1: Artwork does not have to be expensive.

When most of us think of art, we immediately see dollar signs. However, you do not have to have the budget of a celebrity art collector to create an eye-catching design. A little creativity and some thrifti-ness can help you find inexpensive and trendy ways to display art that won’t leave your wallet empty.

Tip #2: Don’t waste your budget on new frames.

The cost of framing artwork and photographs adds up quickly. Instead of buying all of your frames brand new, check out local thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales for used pieces. Chances are you will find functional frames for a fraction of the price. Even if the frames appear to be older, a fresh coat of paint that compliments the artwork is inexpensive and will make the frame look brand new.

Tip #3: Symmetry is crucial.

Research has proven that humans find symmetry attractive. When decorating your home, it is impor-tant that your artwork display is balanced. You never see a living room furniture set with just one end table on the right side of the love seat. There are always two end tables, one on each side. Your artwork display should be no different. If you hang an item in the very center of the wall and choose to add more, an item should be added to both sides of the initial piece to keep the symmetry and balance.

Tip #4: Remember the rule of threes.

The rule of threes is probably the most well-known rule when it comes to home decorating. For some reason, people find three pieces hung symmetrically on the wall at eye-level extremely appealing.

Tip #5: Use a leveling gauge.

If you currently do not own a leveling gauge, now is a good time to invest in one. Regardless of how expensive the piece was, artwork will lose all of its charm if it is hung crooked.

Tip #6: Highlight your artwork.

One great way to really make your artwork stand out is to surround it with complimentary colors. If your painting contains bold green colors, hang it on a red wall. Also try choosing a color from the painting to be used as an accent color throughout the room. Accent colors can be found in throw pil-lows, blankets, flowers and any other decorative objects used in the room.

Tip #7: Picture shelves help small photographs make a big statement.

If you want to display framed photographs, but don’t want to deal with the hassle of hanging several separately in order to make a big statement, try using picture shelves. Picture shelves come in all sizes and colors. For a sophisticated look, try hanging black picture shelves and accenting them with black and white, framed photographs displaying a matted border.

Tip #8: Who says art can only be displayed on a wall?

If you are looking for a fresh, new way to display artwork, try suspending it in the air instead of mount-ing it on the wall. Yes, you can actually suspend artwork in the air! All you’ll need to do is mount a

horizontal bar and tie ropes around two corners of the picture you wish to hang. Then, take the two ropes and tie them around the horizontal bar. Before you know it, you have turned your space into something similar to a contemporary art gallery.

Tip #9: Art is more than just paintings.

It is your home and your style, so showcase what you find visually pleasing. Art can be more than just traditional paintings and portraits. Think outside of the box and hang wrought-iron pieces, stained glass, china, etc.

Tip #10: There is no right or wrong way to decorate your home.

Homes are self-expressions of the people who reside in them. Therefore, there is not right or wrong way to decorate their interiors. Have fun, unleash your creative side and enjoy the experience. Remember, interior decorating is not set in stone. You can always change your mind later on.
