Doctoral funding starting April 2015 pursuant to the Hamburg Graduate Student Financial Assistance and Support Act for Scholars and Artists (Hamburgisches Gesetz zur Förderung d. wiss. und künstlerischen Nachwuchses (HmbNFG))

Applications from doctoral students at Universität Hamburg must be submitted between:

06. – 24. October 2014 Only transcripts and evaluations may be submitted at a later date: 25. – 31. October 2014. Prerequisites for a stipend awarded for a period of up to two years: • Finished studies with degree, academic performance must be well above-average • Financial assistance and support must begin no later than one year after a higher

education institution has awarded a degree. A completion grant for doctoral students awarded for a period of up to one year: • Work as a research assistant at the University or at another scientific institution in

Hamburg. • The duration of employment has not exceeded four years; financial assistance and

support must commence immediately upon employment. • Based on preliminary dissertation work, outstanding final results within the funding

period can be expected.

Completion grant or stipend amounts: • Maximum monthly grant or stipend installments amount to EUR 820 per month, plus a

child-care allowance of EUR 154 a month, if applicable. • Special grants for material costs and travel expenses of up to EUR 1,023 annually.

Those who have already been conferred a doctorate, are employed, or are receiving other financial assistance and support for their doctoral project are ineligible for financial assistance and support under this program.
