FPOA FUN Page 2
A Sizzling Summer in Foxfire Just when you thought it couldn’t get any hotter — it did!
But that didn’t keep all these hardy souls who call Foxfire
home from having more than their share of fun this sum-
mer. Here’s a quick look back of some of the fun goings-
on enjoyed by those who were brave enough to leave the
air conditioning during the past couple of months to en-
joy some outdoor fun with friends and neighbors.
MOVIE NIGHT On what was possibly the ONLY
cool evening of summer, Movie Night, sponsored by the
FPOA, was held June 14 in the Foxfire Village Green.
After a few friendly games of corn hole, “How to Train
Your Dragon” lit up the screen while the sun set,
the popcorn popped, and a fun time was had by all.

FOURTH OF JULY PICNIC Storm clouds cleared
away just in time for FPOA members and their guests to cele-
brate America’s 243rd birthday, Thursday, July 4, at an old-
fashioned picnic in the Village Green Park. This annual event
was sponsored by the FPOA and featured hamburgers and hot
dogs, soft drinks and lots of other traditional goodies. A shout-
out of thanks to all the volunteers who helped with set-up, grill-
ing and cleanup — and a special thank you to Mother Nature!

nual favorite event.

After a summer
hiatus, it’s back
in September,

evenings.
Girls just wanna have fun! Rumor has it that
Connie Hochstettler, Judy Dickerson and Rose
Munday (below) were in training for the Olym-
pics crew team this summer, on Forest Lake.
Meanwhile, Connie put down her paddle long
enough (right, center), along with Pam Reyes and
Sue Sedlak, to enjoy a little goat yoga. No sitting
by the air conditioning vents for these women!

RICK RHYNE MEMORIAL FISHING TOURNAMENT More than 100
area children participated in this year’s Rick Rhyne Memorial Fishing Tournament, held
annually in August at Foxfire’s Lake Mackenzie, benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. The
tournament is held in honor of former Foxfire Police Chief Rick Rhyne, who was killed in
the line of duty in December 2011. Fishing poles were provided for all who needed them,
and prizes were handed out throughout the day, as were food and refreshments.

Jerry Tubbs scored a
hole-in-one in June, on
the 13th hole of the Red
Course, hitting his 6-
iron approximately 118
yards. “My first one,
and it only took me 70
years and 2 months,”
Jerry quipped. His
playing partners were

Marquis and Brian
Manley.
Sue Sedlak took a
break from goat yoga
to scored her hole-in-

The FPOA’s first two 2019 Newcomers’ Meet and Greet events are in the books!
Our Newcomers’ Greet and Meet approach embodies the FPOA’s spirit of togetherness.
It’s a simple concept: We invite our new neighbors to an FPOA Board member’s home to
meet the board members, the Foxfire mayor, the police chief and fellow newcomers. It
offers them the opportunity to learn more about the social events sponsored by the FPOA,
receive helpful information about Foxfire Village and the greater community, and find
answers to any questions they may have.
After taking the summer off, we’re planning to hold our next Meet and Greet in
October. There are many newcomers in Foxfire Village, and we look forward to what may
be our biggest Meet and Greet yet!
For information or questions on the
FPOA Meet and Greet, email Ramiro
Reyes at [email protected] or call
910-215-5993.
The May Meet and Greet was held at
the home of Bill and Barbara Smart.
From left, newcomers Tom and
Marian Leen, Rick Willard, Kathleen
Johnson. With them are MJ Sheldon,
Leslie Frusco, Barb Smart, Ginny
Siedler, Sue Sedlak, Bill Smart.
Newcomers’ Meet and Greet to Resume in October
