• Deck operations in wind speed up to 50 kts with (optional) Deck Lock engaged

• Takeoff / Landing operations with typical ship roll angles of 10º

• Advanced rotor blade design maximises situational awareness in reduced visibility conditions.

TOTAL MULTI-ROLE FLEXIBILITY

NEW CONCEPT

The AW101 is the latest variant of the EH101 helicopter. The EH101 was designed for military, maritime and civil roles. Its design and development was fully supported by an extensive program of government and industry funded research into the future requirements for medium lift helicopters. Designed, developed and produced by AgustaWestland, the AW101 has been in operational service since 1999.

This brochure describes the maritime variant of the AW101, which features new higher power engines and next generation main rotor blades for enhanced hot and high performance, and new cockpit displays for reduced pilot workload and increased mission effectiveness.

FLEXIBLE AND COST-EFFECTIVE

The AW101 provides the flexibility and cost-effectiveness demanded by its customers through:• New Technology• Large Capacity and Long Range• High Safety Levels• Superior Performance• Total Product Support

MULTI-ROLE DESIGN

The AW101 is a fully marinised helicopter with exceptional multirole capabilities. Designed for autonomous ship borne operations from small frigates, the AW101 delivers unrivalled performance, safety and multi-mission flexibility for all specialist and routine maritime roles.

SUPERIOR MISSION PERFORMANCE

LONG RANGE

With a typical range of 750 nm (over 1,300 km) in standard configuration and a large capacity cabin, the AW101 is the most capable maritime helicopter available in the world today. The AW101 has demonstrated over 900 nm continuous flying with auxiliary fuel tanks.

In addition to its already excellent range capabilities, the AW101 range can be further extended when using the optional Air-to-Air refuelling (successfully demonstrated with C-130 aircraft) and Hover-In-Flight refuelling capabilities (frequently used by AW101 maritime operators).

CLASS LEADING OEI CAPABILITY

The AW101 is equipped with three civil certified (FAA Type Certificate E8NE) General Electric CT7-8E engines, each controlled by dual channel FADEC units. This engine configuration provides:

• Superior One Engine Inoperative (OEI) performance – can safely complete mission with two engines

• Minimised exposure in critical phases of flight; takeoff, landing and hovering

• Twin Engine Cruise (TEC) option to further extend the superior range capability

• Horizontal and vertical separation in engine installation to tolerate small arms fire

SHIP OR SHORE BASED

The AW101 routinely operates from ship or shore bases around the world. Existing variants are cleared to operate from a variety of vessels ranging from small Type 23 Frigates up to Helicopter Assault Carriers.

The flight characteristics of the AW101 are designed specifically for ship operations in extreme weather conditions. Large main and tail rotor thrust margins and excellent control response provides the agility needed for operations in rough sea states. The wide tricycle undercarriage and negative thrust capability ensures stability during landing and takeoff operations.

For maximum flexibility, the AW101 can be equipped with an (optional) Deck Lock system, enabling 360° rotation on the deck for optimal positioning. This feature, coupled with the complementary deck handling system assures maximum safety during deck movements in adverse conditions up to Sea State 6.

The AW101 can be equipped with an optional main rotor and tail rotor folding system, enabling stowage, transport and maintenance, even within a confined hangar space.
