August WWW.MODESTOSKICLUB.COM Volume 154 August 2016 President’s Message Hello fellow club members: It is summertime! 100+ degrees heat and sunshine! Linda and I enjoyed the weather of the Northwest in Neah Bay during the heat of July. Now we are training in the heat for longer summer bike rides. This is an active social club and we have activities scheduled year round. We have organized bike rides, walks, wine tasting, kayaking, baseball events and hockey events on our schedule. In addition to our scheduled events, we can use our Lodge as a base for golfing and biking or hiking over the high Sierra and around Tahoe. I have observed that skiers love to be active and enjoy life to its fullest. Our next meeting will be a BBQ and pot luck at the Cook Man Cave on Aug 9 a Tuesday evening. This is a not to be missed opportunity to dine with friends while trying out Randy’s latest games. I expect the bean bag teams and bean bag toss will be very active. FWSA Convention will be in Boise ID next year. Plan on attending; Maarten Vandermeer’s family (granddaughter Emily with her Idaho College ski team) will be active supporters of this convention. This club has lots of summer activities to keep you alive, if you survive the activity. In addition, you do need to plan the up- coming years ski trips: FWSA Ski Week at Breckenridge(15 are signed up already, do not be left out); BAC Park City UT Ski Trip; Sun Peaks in Canada; and International Ski trips by FWSA (available on the www.fwsa.org web site). Check out the activities page for details of coming activities (they can change occasionally). Chuck Hennings President

President’s MessageHello fellow club members:

MODESTO SKI CLUB LODGE NEWS

Greetings! Wow summer is in full swing. There are so many fun activities to do in the Truckee area in the summer so make a reservation for a stay at the LODGE!!! The Modesto Ski Club Lodge looks great!

Work weekend is coming up in September. The dates are September 23-25, 2016. It is a really great way to see how the Lodge operates. Members earn a voucher for a one night stay by working and the club provides the following four meals during the weekend: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner on Saturday; Breakfast on Sunday & Lunch on Sunday is usually leftovers.

Just some follow-up Lodge Stuff: If you still have a WINTER SEASON KEY, please get that back to me ASAP. If you are planning to extend the Winter Season Key, you may do so by paying an additional $75.00. FYI: Summer Season Keys are not allowed to extend into the Winter Season.

Here are some “Do’s and Don’ts” to review when staying at the Lodge:

1 ) Please Turn Lights OFF

2) Trash compactor…When opening it, you do not have to step on the bottom of the front drawer, just lift up with your hand on the handle and pull. Be sure to empty and replace with a new bag at the end of your trip

3) Refrigerator: EMPTY of any perishable food

4) Garbage Disposals: Do not leave any food in them, it will spoil and make the Lodge smell.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if anything needs attention at the Lodge. Please contact me via email [email protected] or call the home number 209-571-8125.

Thanks!

Michelle Nightengale, Lodge Chairperson
