FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

It’s Mission Month at First Calvary, so, let’s check our Mission efforts. The questions are, “What Can God Use You For?”, “What Have You Done Lately?” AND “IF I WOULD GAUGE MY LOVE FOR GOD AND THIS CONGREGATION WHAT WOULD MY RATING BE?” On Thursday I sent a phone tree call to the many households that we have legitimately in our records. If you did not receive a call then your data information is not correct and needs updating. This message was sent in the spirit of Kononia and with the passion that I have for being your Pastor. I hope that throughout this month each disciple of Jesus Christ in the life of this congregation will find your Passion and will find something or someone to carry out a Missionary cause for. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we should be willing and ready to give of our resources in time, talents, and treasures.

I hope that every household will take an active and big part in our “Food Pantry Family Challenge” and bring in the non-perishable items requested each week….prayerfully you have already brought in your oatmeal and rice…now it’s time for dry beans and pasta! Your donations mean a lot and help us feed many! Be like your Pastor, go ahead and get all of your monthly items at one time and turn them in. No matter when you bring them, they will be counted towards the 100 item goal for each week throughout the month. (and yes, that means Pastor Davis and the Davis household have already given their food donations!) This ministry does a great work in the community and we want these efforts to continue. We thank our Food Pantry Coordinators and Volunteers for their tireless efforts each week. Our Food Pantry is typically open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., however, when we don’t have food we can’t serve those in need….so please give! Additionally, we encourage each family to give cleaning items for the ACT Ministry Mission Project (Pastor has already done that too!). It is my prayer that we will never forget that we are held accountable by the Spirit of God to care for the least, left out and the lost. During Mission Month First Calvary will give towards the well-being of those organizations that help the disenfranchised, unemployed and those in despair. THIS WEEK, we will have our Annual “Our Community Goes Back to School” event on Wednesday, August 9th. Parents and students, BE THERE. We need QUALITY, normal sized bookbags for this event….please consider donating one to be given to students for the school year. I know that several of our college freshmen will be leaving to start school soon. It is your Pastor’s prayer that you stay engaged in His presence and power and that you keep the main thing the main thing! As always, we need your support in our Study Ministries, so please go to Sunday School and come each Wednesday night for Bible Study and join in Noon Day Prayer. Again, it’s Mission Month, y’all….so make it your “mission” to serve and study within this Body of Faith. Let us always remember that we are AN EXCITING CHURCH EXCITED ABOUT ITS MISSION!

THE DEACON’S MESSAGE

Has life been inflexible lately? Are you experiencing trouble? God has a promise for you. "When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue them and honor them." Psalm 91:15, NLT Are you feeling abandoned? Jesus reassured His disciples of their importance to Him before He made the companion-less journey to the cross. "'Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.'" John 14:1-3, NLT That not only speaks to feelings of abandonment, but it also shows God has a plan for you. It may seem cloudy today, but God wants you to know that He's working on something great for you! When the time is right, He is going to come and get you, but He wants you to be encouraged while you wait.
