PARISH BUSINESS

Page 3

News from the P.I.T. Priest in TrainingNow that we are in August and school is about to start

again, if you walk by the rectory you may hear me crying, “I don’t want the summer to end!” Why? Because ministry at Visitation is about to jump up to full speed again! From the school classroom visits, to attending the school sport-ing events, to RE starting is just to name a few!

I find comfort, however, that my response to the sum-mer ending is much like St. Peter’s in the Gospel. After experiencing the Transfiguration of the Lord, St. Peter wanted didn’t want to leave the mountain with the Lord. Yet, the Lord leads St. Peter off the mountain. He was teaching St. Peter, that the experience of the Transfigura-tion was meant to give him strength to endure the difficulty of the Cross, which would lead to the greater joys of the Resurrection!

For if St. Peter had his way, Jesus would have never left the mountain, he would have never died on the cross, and the gates of heaven would have never been opened to us. If I had my way about the summer, school would never start, I would never have encounters with students and their fam-ilies, and I would miss out in the great joys of my priest-hood!

And so, even though I may have been crying in the rectory with the thought of summer ending, I’m also very excited to see what the Lord has planned for me this coming fall at Visit-ation. For it is in our acceptance of the Cross, that we shall experience the joys of the Resurrection!

Fr. Michael Kearney

A Goodbye From Debbie JohnsonAfter almost twentytwo years of serving Visitation as

your Business Manager, I will be retiring effective August 15, 2017. I have worked for and with four Pastors, eight-een Parochial Vicars, numerous seminarians, staff and a plethora of volunteers. At the same time, I have been blessed to have met so many parishioners who were very generous to Visitation in the giving of their time, talents, and of course their treasure. They have enriched my life and brought many blessings to our parish.

Through the years I have been charged with computeriz-ing the rectory office and books, keeping the financials, renovating many parts of the school, the Vision 2000 reno-vation of the church, and assisting in the most recent build-ing project, The Parish Center. All of this has truly been a work of love; and God has been with me throughout the ups and downs.

I want to sincerely thank all of the volunteers I have had the privilege of working with including the people who have answered phones in the rectory, counted the collec-tion, entered collection numbers into the parish database, served at the many receptions by cooking, decorating, and cleaning up for anniversaries, goodbyes and even a bish-op’s ordination.

I grew up in this parish; was married here; sent my son to school at Visitation and have lived my faith. It has never been just a job, but a home and my family. So thank you, my Visitation family, for your encouragement, support, and wonderful friendships.

Blessings, Debbie Johnson

Well Wishes and CardsFor Debbie Johnson

Well wishes and cards may be sent to Debbie Johnson in care of the rectory.

Transfiguration of the LordThe Lord works each day to assure us that we are his

beloved children and that his favor rests on us. It is our responsibility, our mandate, and our privilege to live in ways that reflect our adoption as God’s sons and daugh-ters. To do this, we are to reject the values of this world and cooperate with God’s grace so we can lead lives that glorify God.
