Christ nourishes and cherishes the church because we are members of his body
— Ephesians 5:21-32 [5:2a, 25-32]
CULTURE OF LIFE AND PRO-LIFE MINISTRY
Do You Know Roe? Before "Roe" all states permitted abortion if necessary to save the mother's life, and some permitted abortion in addi-tional circumstances. But "Roe" deemed any prohibition on abortion as unconstitutional.
If "Roe" is overturned, policy decisions about abortion will be made by the citizens of each state through the demo-cratic process, rather than by courts. Some states will place limits on abortion, in others there will likely be few limits.
Not until "Roe vs. Wade" is reversed will the people again be able to govern themselves on the important public policy issue of abortion.
Prayer For Life Novena Intercession: May a change in the U.S. Supreme Court move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life.
Prayers: Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, Glory Be
Reflection: Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy's announcement that he will retire has catapulted Roe v. Wade into the news. Pro-abortion groups are pulling out all the stops to urge the U.S. Senate to reject any nominee who does not promise to publicly endorse Roe. And they are misrepresenting the legal and social reality of Roe and what would happen if it is overturned.
The upcoming Supreme Court vacancy provides us with an occasion requiring focused prayer. The USCCB does not support or oppose the confirmation of any presidential nom-inee. However, given this historic moment, the U.S. bishops are urging all people of good will to pray for nine weeks—starting Friday—that a change in the U.S. Supreme Court may move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law and welcomed in life.
Acts of Reparation (Choose one.)
— Join in the nine-week Novena for the Legal Protection of Human Life by signing up at www.usccb.org/pray.
— Choose one day this week to offer a fast for the inten-tion of the novena. (Get information and ideas for fasting.)
— Urge Congress to stand up for fairness and life in filling the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Send your Senators a message today at https://bit.ly/2Lif0Kh! Then share on so-cial media to encourage others to join you

MASS COLLECTIONS: Saturday (8/18/18) $3,520
Sunday (8/19/18) $16,513
TOTAL $20,033
Spanish translation of Father Scott’s Campaign update letter printed in the July 22 bulletin:

Everyday Stewardship
My wife has a hope chest filled with items from her past. Some memories contained in there are joyous, while oth-ers are painful and filled with sorrow. However, all those memories helped to make her the person she is today. They have become a part of her very being. Traditionally, a hope chest contained linens and clothing for a woman's wedding day. It was a chest filled with the hope for the future. As time goes by, many of our hopes are fulfilled. However, life never goes exactly as planned. Some hopes are dashed by unfortunate circumstances or bad choices we have made. Our hearts are like hope chests that long for the day when we are joined for eternity with our God. Along the way, our chest may accumulate additional items that we collect on our life's journey. If we are gracious and generous along the way, our chest will fill with fruit to abundance. If we live more with a focus on ourselves, we will find our hope chests nearly barren. We will, in fact, lose hope. May the hope chest of your heart be overflowing with love that you have freely given and that has come back to you tenfold. May your generosity provide hope for the hopeless, and may your hope always remain strong. --Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
--Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
