Summer construction season is a busy time in the Northwoods, and we’re
seeing that action around the building. The most obvious changes have
been in the front of the building where we have the walls and floor for the
front vestibule/stairway poured and where the whole foundation of the
building on the east and north sides has been dug out and liquid
waterproofed.
One of the major improvements to the long-term health of the building is a
major effort to seal the lower level off from water incursion. This is a big
job involving excavating the entire perimeter of the old building, removing
heavy silt/clay soils, cleaning off and adding liquid spray waterproofing to
the block walls, putting in drain tile (which I got to learn isn’t tile at all but
a flexible porous conduit pipe with a panty-hose like sock cover) and gravel
for pulling water away from the building, and then backfilling.
Hard at work on the concrete floor.
The 501c(3) Three Lakes Public Library Foundation continues to accept donations including cash, appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and IRA distributions.
Pick up a brochure and donation card at the library, or use the form below. Please call Erica Brewster (715-546-3391) or Vicki
Reuling (715-546-8032) for more information. Your contribution will help us open a new chapter for the Demmer Library!

“What’s Happening with the Building?”
We’ll start to see a lot of heavy equipment action around the building in August. One of the exciting but
most nerve-wracking (to me, at least), is the idea that they’re going to bring in a big crane to lift our old lift
(ha), from its current spot on the south side of the building over to its new home on the north end.
Lots of questions have been asked about the town offices, community building, and police department.
Watch for more news soon, but at the July 17 town board meeting, the board voted to accept bids for
demolition and construction of a new town building starting mid-August. With luck and planning, they
should be moving in next spring – so we will have a lot to celebrate when our summer residents return!
