Wednesday 16th NSA Ram Sale

Texel Rams and Females sold to a packed ringside and a strong trade with the overall average up again from last year by £84 at £641! Top of the day was 1500gns for an outstanding shearling “Housey Yeah Man” by Grougfoot Uncle Jim from MG & KJ
Coumbe of Liskeard who sold two other quality Rams at 900gns each. Close behind at 1300gns was the best of an outstanding run from FH Chave & Son of Wellington with the Overall Champion “Peacehay Young Offender” by Clarks Wizard. Peacehay
also received the Trophy for the best pen of rams and saw others to 1150gns, 1100gns, 1000gns, 950gns, 850gns & 800gns with an exceptional average of £835 for 15 Rams! Very well done to
the Chave Family! Robert & Rebecca Jordan of Chagford sold the best of their shearlings from their Moortown Flock to
1200gns with others to 720gns from the same vendor. the Quick family of Crediton sold the best of their run at 950gns
with others to 720gns and 700gns x 2. RC Burrough & Son of Axminster sold their best to 900gns with others at 800gns.
Alan & Barbara Draper of Crediton sold their Rams to 880gns, 800gns, 750gns & 700gns and Micheal Lear of Crediton sold his
best to 800gns. Joanna Killin of Bridport sold a very decent run of shearlings to 700gns twice. Only a handful of Texel Females saw the Champion Female, a shearling Ewe from Graham Hill
of Budleigh Salterton which sold at 350gns. Beltex Rams & Beltex Females - An excellent quality entry of Shearling rams sold to a strong trade for the best and a mixed
trade for the rest! Top of the day 1200gns for the Overall Male Champion a smart Shearling from VJ & ML Roots & Son of Warwickshire who sold others to 480gns and 440gns. Other Shearlings sold to 600gns & 500gns for Andrew Bishop of
Gloucestershire, 520gns for Judith Lapthorne of Kingsbridge, 500gns x 2, 480gns & 400gns for Louise Elworthy of Crockernwell and 500gns for Mr G Dufosee of Wiltshire. Ram Lambs topped at 1000gns for Louise Elworthy who sold others to 700gns &
500gns. Others to 600gns for Andrew Bishop and 500gns & 450gns for Margaret Heard & John Garland of Taunton. Quality Shearling Ewes sold well to a top of 1000gns for Andrew Bishop who sold another at 500gns and VJ & ML Roots & Son sold the
female & Supreme Champion at 950gns with others from the same home at 500gns. Andrew Bishop sold two outstanding Ewe Lambs at 600gns & 450gns with others to 400gns & 300gns from Louise Elworthy.
Blue Texel Rams - Only a handful of Blue Texel Rams forward from Gwen Renfree of Liskeard which sold to a top of 420gns.
Suffolk sheep started the sale in Ring two with a
decent level of interest for the better commercial shearling rams selling to 720gns, 700gns, 660gns,
640gns & 600gns (x2) for Henry Derryman and family of Yarcombe, 700gns & 580gns (x3) for Robert Hopper
and family of Tiverton, 630gns for J Cornock of Newport, 620gns, 560gns & 500gns (x2) for Derek Farr
of Hereford and all 41 shearlings (8 less than last year) averaged £523, up £38 on last year’s average. Suffolk
Ram Lambs were harder to place although having said that Robin Irwin of Umberleigh received 740gns for his
best whilst Brandon Roth of Redruth made 300gns of his and Suffolk females sold to 250gns, 240gns (x2) and 210gns for Arthur Brown of Templecombe. A shorter entry of
Berrichon’s saw first time vendor Clive Morse of Carmarthen sell all of his to tops of 540gns, 500gns, 480gns & 460gns (x2) while Malcolm Yeo of Barnstaple reached 460gns (x2) & 440gns of his. Lleyns reached 520gns, 500gns & 440gns for Richard
Turner of Honiton and Border Leicester’s sold at 250gns for Sue Martyn of Launceston. A much larger entry of Crossbred rams were of varying quality and sold to a steady trade and disappointing clearance. Best Charollias x Texel’s from the Quick family of Crediton made 520gns & 500gns (x2) and similar bred sorts sold to 440gns for Robert Hopper. Angus Howie of Okehampton
had a large run of varying crossbred that met with good bidding and clearance and sold to 410gns, 400gns, 360gns, 350gns, 340gns ect, and other sold to 380gns for both Adrian Dufosee & family of Warminster and VJ & ML Roots & Sons of Warwickshire.
Dorset’s sold to 420gns twice and 400gns for Shearlings from Les French of Launceston and Hampshire Down Shearling Rams reached 400gns twice for Henry Derryman and family.

A massive line-up of pedigree Charollais sheep at this sale, the largest entry seen for many years were of overall
decent quality and sold to a straight commercial trade throughout. Shearling Rams peaked at 780gns, 700gns,
650gns (x3) and 600gns (x3) for EW Quick & Sons of Crediton who were awarded the second prize run of
Shearling rams. First prize run of Shearlings came from Gerald Burrough of Honiton and included the Overall
Supreme Champion and Gerald’s run sold to tops of 720gns, 620gns (x3), 580gns and 500gns (x2). Third prize
run of Shearlings came from Abi Dart of Bradninch and sold to 620gns, 600gns & 580gns, while Arthur &
Rosemary Wrayford of Denbury sold their best three at 620gns, Shaun Ellis of Launceston saw his best reach 620gns & 550gns (x2) and Rob Harris of Holsworthy peaked at 600gns & 580gns. In total the 52 Shearling Rams sold (four more than last year)
averaged £552.88 (up £10 on 2016). A large offering of Ram Lambs were a workman like trade with a highlight being the Reserve Champion Male from John Barker & Family of Wellington achieving 580gns followed by another from the same home at 400gns.
Gerald Burrough exhibited the First Prize run of Ram Lambs that saw prices reach 480gns, 450gns & 400gns (x2), second prize run came from Robert Hopper & family of Tiverton that sold to 400gns (x3) & 380gns while third prize was again won by Abi Dart who reached 380gns & 350gns (x2). Carol Irwin parted with a great run of Ram Lambs that sold to 400gns (x4) & 350gns,
as EA Cox & Son of Timberscombe sold their best lambs to 350gns, 340gns (x2) & 320gns. 44 Ram Lambs (up 6 on the year) sold to average £357.48 (up £16).
The Females were huge in number and respectable in quality and drew a decent crowd from across the country to result in a generally pleasing trade. Older ewes were topped by a stand out one crop ewe sired by Foulrice Omar, from Gerald Burrough
that climbed to 680gns, followed by Arthur & Rosemary Wrayford at 420gns, 360gns, 340gns (x2) & 300gns (x4) whilst Arthur Brown & Gill Beckley of Templecombe made 400gns, 360gns & 320gns and the 22 aged ewes averaged £319. A massive
cataloguing of nearly 50 Shearling ewes peaked at 680gns for the Female Champion, a Wernfawr Protector daughter from Carol Irwin’s Brandywells flock with another from the same home at 480gns. Arthur & Rosemary Wrayford’s shearlings rose
to 500gns, 350gns, 320gns & 300gns, Gerald Burrough sold to 480gns & 440gns, EW Quick & Sons achieved 460gns of their best and John Osborne of Bude sold two at 400gns. The 34 Shearling ewes sold averaged an impressive £339. A handful of
smart Ewe Lambs from Arthur Brown & Gill Beckley sold to 400gns & 220gns (x2) to average £260. A few consignments of Non MV Accredited Rams followed the Charollais and sold to 450gns for Suffolk Shearlings from
James Heard of Okehampton, 320gns (x2) for Blue Faced Leicester’s from Brian Dallyn of Barnstaple and to 250gns for a Dorset Down from NJ Bond of Torpoint.
