Please mark your calendars for our next Genealogy Club seminar on Thursday, September 17, 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., in the Building 220-2N, "B" Conference Room. JoEllen Haugo, librarian at the Hennepin County Library (HCL), will present "Working on Your Family History at the Public Library". Please see her brief biography and abstract below. All active 3M employees and retirees are welcome. The seminar is free.
BiographyJoEllen Haugo, has worked with the Hennepin County Library – Minneapolis Central Library (HCL-MCL) Genealogy Collection since 2006. She oversees the genealogy book and periodical collection and genealogy volunteers, along with other library duties. She teaches the Genealogy Get Started class monthly and hosts numerous genealogy programs each year. In 2009, in cooperation with the Minnesota Genealogical Society (MGS), she organized the first Family History Fair at the HCL-MCL. JoEllen has served on the MGS Library Board since 2012 and, in 2014, she was the recipient of the MGS Minnesota Genealogy Pioneer Explorer Award for contributions to the development of Minnesota Resources for genealogy and family history.
AbstractPublic libraries are keenly aware of the interest in genealogy and purchase online and print resources to support this field. Some of the key resources for finding family history records are available through libraries. Your library card gives you free access to these resources. Our speaker will unearth some of the gems and suggest tools to help you discover more of your family history.
