President’s Message
Susan Parrett
There’s no meeting this month, but
we’re still painting those wonderful
ornaments for the Christmas basket
raffle. Even though we’re already selling chances,
there is still time to finish your ornaments in time to get
into the incentive prize raffle! If you’re joining us on
the GCDA bus trip to HOOT, you can give your orna-
ments to Melanie, or you can bring them to the next
meeting, in September.
Speaking of the HOOT bus trip, there is still time to
get on board for a fun-filled day with your painting
friends. Anyone is welcome to join us, so bring your
friends and family. It’s always a relaxing, interesting
day. Alice Goldfuss has arranged several pick-up
points to make it convenient for everyone. Just contact
Alice to make a reservation.
Sharon Chinn’s seminar is coming up in September.
Check out the picture of Sharon’s project and sign up
information in the newsletter.
Looking forward, elections are coming up in No-
vember. The open positions are president and treasurer
if you are interested, or know someone who might be,
please contact one of the members of the nominating
committee. November will be here before we know it!
Keep painting!
Susan

Your retreat committee has been hard at work planning another great retreat.
Lots of fun things are in the works and we are in the process of lining up
some great teachers for your painting pleasure.
Letters of invitation were sent to teachers, but if you know of one or more that you
would like the retreat committee to contact, please let Jo Ann Heurich know as soon
as possible. In addition, if there is a particular medium you would like to learn
or experience at retreat, let Jo Ann know that as well. And finally, If you are a
teacher, please read the teacher letter of invitation on page 5 of this newsletter.
In all cases, contact Jo Ann at [email protected] as soon as possible.
Remember there is a $25 incentive for bringing a new attendee to our retreat.
Spread the word about retreat throughout your circle of family, friends and
acquaintances. Talk it up! Our retreat is a great learning experience for all levels of
painters. Plus there’s camaraderie and fun times with friends,
AND loads of good food! (Just don’t bring your diet!)
Please mark your calendars for our Preview Party at West Park on October 26, 2014. This will be your chance to see all the class projects first-hand and close up.
More information regarding the time and location will be announced.

Program Report Emily Stamm, VP Programs Summer is such a busy time, but I hope that all of you are enjoying the season and finding time to kick back, relax--and paint! At our July meeting, Jo Ann Heurich planned and taught the dragonfly Shrinky Dink pendant. Thank you so much to JoAnn for sharing her talent with our group! Since I was out of town for the meeting and class, I asked Carole Arend to share a few ideas about the class. Here’s what Carole reported: "Eleven members had a fun and relaxing time with Jo Ann Heurich as she taught the Shrinky Dink class following the July meeting. The pattern was traced onto plastic with a Sharpie pen, painted and then scissors used to cut along pattern lines. One by one, Jo Ann baked them in the toaster oven as the class watched the plastic shrink, curl up and flatten out again. A few sparkles were glued on, and like magic, the plain piece of plastic turned into a pretty pendant or pin." Thank you so much, Carole — it sounds like a great experience!
Since there will be no meeting in August, please remember to take care of September busi-ness: The chapter meeting and colored pencil class with Pat Hull on Sunday, September 14th, and seminar with Sharon Chinn on Saturday, September 27th. Class flyers / registration forms for both are included in this newsletter. Please note that supply lists for the September 14 class and the 27th workshop are not included in either flyer; they will be emailed to each registrant, so don’t wait too long to regis-
ter. Remember the deadlines for these activities and send your September money and regis-tration to me. Contact me if you have questions about our classes and programs. Email: [email protected] OR call (859) 331-8599. I am still looking for members to teach at our Sunday meetings in 2015-specifically, Janu-ary, February, May, June, July, September, and November! Please consider sharing your tal-ents with friends. I will be so grateful!!! Thank you so much for all of your support! Happy painting!!
