LETTER FROM THE G.M.

August heralds the annual obser-vance Admissions Day in Hawaii, which was attained statehood on August 21, 1959. I was a child living in rural O’ahu then and I vividly recall the clanging of pots and pans as people took to the streets and celebrated becoming the 50th state in the greatest country in the free world.

Did you know that Maui has two seasons? Hard to believe, but we actually have a summer (April to October) and a winter (November through March). Because of our location in relation to the equator and the mountain ranges and inte-rior valleys, Maui’s weather is pretty diverse; rainforest in Haiku, cool and clear in Kula, arid and hot in Lahaina and, of course, perfection in Wailea! Yes, beautiful Wailea’s weather is nearly almost perfect, hence why so many visit, and even more return.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL – FRIDAY, AUGUST 17

MAUI COFFEE FESTIVAL – SATURDAY, AUGUST 4

As hosted by the general manager, for store managers and owners. RSVP is required. Call the management office 891-6770 or email [email protected].

Don’t forget to stop by the lower court-yard Saturday, August 4 (10am - 4pm) for a cup of joe. The first-annual “Maui Coffee Festival at The Shops at Wail-ea,” in partnership with the Maui Cof-fee Association, is a free event show-casing the island’s coffee farmers and their crop.

They’re even giving away a 14-day Hawaiian cruise, a $3,000 Tommy Bahama Gift Card, $200 for dinner at a Tommy Bahama restaurant, and other prizes. Visit TommyBahama.com/relax for your shot at winning.

Can’t make it? You can still relax with a free appetizer on “Foodie Fridays.” Each Friday in August Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar is giving away a free appetizer when you mention the weekly passphrase.
