LIV ROCKS In the Summer! Summer fun in Long Island Village was kicked off June 23rd with the 2nd Annual LIV Fishing Tournament! Not only was it the second year but it was also “double” the number of entries, “double” the money raised for the Employee Christmas Fund....and “double” the fun!! Dena Villareal from Team DeAnda reeled in the largest Red and a $250 prize. Team Cool Fish won for both trout & flounder netting a whopping $500! A big “thank you” to Chris & Cindy Hatzold, Mike & Lynn Flanagan, Leroy & Ivonne Barerra and David & Arlene Garcia along with the Summer D&E for pulling this tourna-ment together and everyone involved for raising $750 toward the Employee Christmas Bonus.

The next order of business was the first ever “Family Dance” in the Rec. Center put on by the Hatzold’s, Garcia’s, Barerra’s, & McBride’s. DJ “Cool” Raul Moreno spun a great mix of tunes and everyone from 8 to 80 danced the night away raising money to benefit the “Golf Course Beautification Project”. There were 112 adults and who knows how many kids? Ryan Hatzold, Troy Jewell, Lauren, Cristian, & Briana Barerra sold snacks, the McBride’s provided margaritas for donations, and an anonymous clown made balloon animals. Does anyone know who that clown was? After expenses $344 was donated to Golf Course Beautification.

The 4th of July Golf Cart Parade put on by Annita White and the Summer D&E was an enormous success! It was a proud moment when 49 golf carts adorned our streets, lights flashing, and patriotic music blaring. Gundy & Flora Gunderson shared 1st place with Joe & Sonia Farias and family for golf cart decoration. Gene Rutland shared 1st place best decorated motorcycle with Dena Dolfin & Danny. “Cool” Raul Moreno, wife Lily, & their adorable kids, Ava & Kai took first in bicycle décor.

We wrapped up the week of the 4th with an “International Block Party” Saturday after-noon. It was a festive atmosphere with music provided by Fred Flores. Families set up their canopy’s and endured the hot sun to visit and serve a wide assortment of favorites from Gumbo, BBQ, a variety of casseroles, shrimp, margaritas, jello shots, to brownies with dill pickles! No I am not kidding…..you should try ‘em….Yummy!

WATERING REMINDER

Due to an $80,000 cost overrun in 2011 and to be proactive with water conserva-tion, the Board of Directors voted to enact a year round residential watering restriction. This would allow for outside water usage on Tuesday and Saturday from 7am until 7pm, for washing houses, decks, cars, etc. All wa-tering hoses must have some type of water shut-off at the end of the hose, to prevent uncontrolled water flow. This will take effect on June 1, 2012. The exceptions to this restriction would be for residents using water to wash their boats, clean up after fishing, and for hand held hose watering of plants and gardens.

Further information can be found on the front page of the June Newsletter on the LIV web-site – Longislandvillage.com.
