Hey everybody! It's been a fairly exciting year for me; I've fully taken over the MA program and we've made some great changes to it, and Micah (Jamie and Kim's adopted son from Ethiopia) is finally home! Please keep the Arpin-Ricci's in your prayers as they bond as a family and go through this time of transition. MA As many of you know, this was my first summer as the director of the Mission Adventures program. It went really well, much better than expected! Our one team this year came from Grunthal Bergthaler Mennonite Church, and they were a great team. Having a group that is eager to do just about anything they're told to makes directing such a breeze! As long as I've been a part of the Mission Adventures program, we've had some sort of international focus to get the participants thinking about our responsibility as the Church in issues around the globe. In the past for this portion we would show the participants “Invisible Children,” a documentary about the civil war that was going on in Uganda. Since that documentary is quite out-of- date now, and since we wanted to tie the MA program and our JDTS together somewhat, we've started showing a film called “The Road” (free to watch online at: roadofresistance.com/the- road/ ). This film is about the civil war in Burma, and the oppression of the Karen people by the Burmese military. An additional change to this aspect of the program was to add a practical response to the documentary. So, on a sweltering Saturday, the team did a car-wash fund raiser, and made over $400 which we then sent to the Free Burma Rangers. Free Burma Rangers “bring help, hope and love to people in the war zones of Burma. Ethnic pro-democracy groups send teams to be trained, supplied and sent into the areas under attack to provide emergency assistance and human rights documentation.” (www.freeburmarangers.org ) Another aspect of having taking over directing MA is that I am now a part of the North American Mission Adventures Leadership Team (NAMALT). I'll be attending some meetings for the NAMALT in September in Salem, Oregon. Please pray that I figure out my place and role on this team.

MAAs many of you know, this was my first summer as the director of the Mission Adventures program.

Since that documentary is quite out-of-date now, and since we wanted to tie the MA program and our JDTS together somewhat, we've started showing a film called “The Road” (free to watch online at: roadofresistance.com/the-road/). This film is about the civil war in Burma, and the oppression of the Karen people by the Burmese military. An additional change to this aspect of the program was to add a practical response to the

documentary. So, on a sweltering Saturday, the team did a car-wash fund raiser, and made over $400 which we then sent to the Free Burma Rangers. Free Burma Rangers “bring help, hope and love to people in the war zones of Burma. Ethnic pro-democracy groups send teams to be trained, supplied and sent into the areas under attack to provide emergency assistance and human rights documentation.” (www.freeburmarangers.org)

Another aspect of having taking over directing MA is that I am now a part of the North American Mission Adventures Leadership Team (NAMALT). I'll be attending some meetings for the NAMALT in September in Salem, Oregon. Please pray that I figure out my place and role on this team.

JDTSAs summer comes to an end, we are all gearing up for our annual Justice Discipleship Training School. So far, we have accepted three students (all of the female persuasion), two from Winnipeg and one from Washington. While we are capable of running the JDTS with just the three of them, we still would like a couple more students. So, if you know of any young adults who are not sure of what they want to do with their fall/winter have them send us an email at [email protected].

We're planning on returning to Thailand for the international outreach portion of the DTS. While we're still working out what exactly we'll be doing there, we are hoping to do some work with the Karen people, most of whom have fled Burma because of the oppression they've faced at the hands of the Burmese military.

We're also planning on spending a bit of time in Bangkok working with the Ruth Center, which is a ministry that does work in the slums of Bangkok. Their main focus is improving the quality of life of many elderly people who live in the slums. We worked with them the last time we went to Thailand, as some of you may recall, and that was one of the main highlights of that trip for me.

While I have been doing quite well, financially, I’m about $1000 short of what I need for the trip to Thailand. So, you’re generosity would be so much appreciated. See below for information about how to support me, and thanks so much to all who do!
